ELEVATOR OUTPUT TORQUE TUBE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1) A removal of the elevator output torque tube
(2) An installation of the elevator output torque tube.
B. The elevator output torque tube is referred to as the "torque tube" in this procedure.

(3) Use the control trim wheel to set the horizontal stabilizer to 4 units of trim.

E. Torque Tube Removal

(1) Remove the mounting bracket [31] of the elevator autopilot actuators:

(a) Remove the bolts [27] and washers [28] from the mounting bracket [31].
(b) Remove the bolts [29] and washers [30] from the mounting bracket [31].
(c) Remove the nuts [35], washers [34], washers [33], and bolts [32] from the mounting bracket
[31].
(d) Remove the nuts [39], washers [38], washers [37], and bolts [36] from the mounting bracket
[31].
(e) Remove the mounting bracket [31] from the airplane.

(2) Install the rig pin E-5 from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 in the elevator aft control quadrant.

(3) Remove the torque tube assembly [1]:
(a) Remove the nuts [25], washers [24], nuts [23], washers [22], and bolts [26] to disconnect the
two elevator control pushrods [4] from the torque tube assembly [1].
(b) Remove the nuts [9], washers [8], washers [7], and bolts [6] to disconnect the two elevator
power control units [5] from the torque tube assembly [1].
(c) Move the elevator power control units [5] away from the aft bulkhead until the input cranks
are in the bottom.
(d) At each end of the torque tube assembly [1], remove the nuts [20], washers [21], nuts [15],
washers [14], bolts [11], bushings [12], and bushings [13] to disconnect the torque tube
assembly [1] from the two inboard pivot brackets [2] and two reaction links [10].
(e) At each end of the torque tube assembly [1], remove the nuts [17], washers [18], washers
[19], and bolts [16] to disconnect the torque tube assembly [1] from the two outboard pivot
brackets [3].
(f) Remove the torque tube assembly [1] from the airplane.
