(b) Do this task: Tailcone Removal, TASK 53-53-00-000-801.

(3) Use the bar, SPL-1677 to set the horizontal stabilizer to 4 units of trim.

(4) Install the rig pin E-5 from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 on the elevator aft quadrant.

(5) To get access to the turnbuckles, do this task:

SUBTASK 27-31-71-020-002
(1) Remove the cables EAL, EBL, EAR, and EBR from the quadrants [5] (Figure 401, Figure 402):
(a) Install the clamps on the cables so the cables will not go through the aft pressure bulkhead.
(b) Remove the turnbuckles locking clips.
(c) Loosen the turnbuckles for the elevator cables EAL, EBL, EAR, and EBR (Figure 401).
(d) Remove the nuts [4], washers [3], bolts [1], and cable retainers [2] from the four quadrants
[5].
(e) Remove the cables from the quadrants [5].

(2) Remove the torque tube [18]:
(a) Remove the nuts [16], washers [15], and bolts [14] to disconnect the elevator position
sensor rod [13] from the torque tube [18] (Figure 402) (View B).
(b) Remove the nut [29], washer [28], washer [27], and bolt [26] to disconnect the autopilot
actuator rod [19] from the input crank [30] (Figure 402)(View C).
(c) Remove the nuts [11], washers [10], washers [9], and bolts [8] to disconnect the four input
rods [7] of the elevator power control units [6] from the four input cranks [12] (Figure 402)
(Views B and E).
(d) Remove the nut [24], washer [23], washer [22], and bolt [21] to disconnect the feel and
centering rod [20] from the input crank [25] (Figure 402)(View C).
(e) Use the drill bit 0.247/0.250 and the drill centering guide to drill out the lockbolts [32] and
collars [33] from the center bearing retainer [31] (Figure 402) (View D).
1) Make sure the holes are not out of tolerance.
(f) Remove the rig pin E-5 from the elevator aft quadrant.
(g) Remove the nuts [43], washers [42], nuts [41], washers [40], bolt assemblies [38], and
bushings [39] to disconnect the two elevator power control units [6] from the torque tube
[18] (Figure 402) (View A-A).

(h) Remove the bolt shrouds [54] from the left and right assemblies.
NOTE: There is a bolt shroud [54] on the bolt heads and the nut ends of the bolts [44].

(i) Remove the nuts [47], washers [46], bolts [44], and bushings [45] to disconnect the two
reaction links [37] from the torque tube [18].
(j) Remove the nuts [48], washers [49], nuts [50], washer [52], washers [51], washers [34], bolt
assemblies [35], and bushings [53] to disconnect the torque tube [18] from the support
structure.
(k) Remove the torque tube [18] from the airplane.
