E. Prepare for the Removal
NOTE: If the horizontal stabilizer is being removed and the same stabilizer, elevator, and elevator
tab is going to be re-installed (without elevator or elevator tab rework or adjustment), then
the following procedure will determine if a flight test is necessary.
NOTE: If the tailcone is removed or it’s position is adjusted during the elevator or stabilizer
removal procedure, the left and right elevator index plate positions will be in a different
position when the tailcone is re-installed. The elevator position cannot be properly
measured with the elevator index plate in a different location, therefore, you must do a
power-off flight test.

(1) Do this task: Elevator Hydraulic System A and B - Pressurization, TASK 27-31-00-800-801.

(2) Do this task: Null Procedure - Mach Trim Actuator, TASK 27-31-00-700-801.

(3) Use the bar, SPL-1677 to set the B dimension of the horizontal stabilizer at 39.89 +/- 0.01 inches
(1013.2 +/- 0.3 mm) (this is a neutral stabilizer setting of zero degrees or 4 units of trim)

(4) Move the control column forward and aft several times and then let it go at the neutral position.

(5) Do the following to measure the elevator position:
(a) Measure the left elevator position on the elevator index plate Figure 403.
NOTE: Be sure to note if the elevator is above or below the neutral mark.
(b) Measure the right elevator position on the elevator index plate Figure 403.
NOTE: Be sure to note if the elevator is above or below the neutral mark.

(6) Do this task: Remove Pressure from the Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B,
TASK 27-31-00-800-802.
