2) Install the spacers [17] between the neutral shift mechanism [1] and support brackets.
a) Add or remove spacers [17], if necessary.
(b) Install the bolts [2], washers [3] (under the nuts), and nuts [4] to attach the left side of the
neutral shift mechanism [1] to the left support bracket.
(c) Install the bolts [11], washers [12] (under the nuts), and nuts [13] to attach the right side of
the neutral shift mechanism [1] to the right support bracket.
WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU TURN THE CRANK OF THE NEUTRAL SHIFT MECHANISM IN
THE UP DIRECTION. IF YOU INSTALL THE CRANK INCORRECTLY, THE
STABILIZER CAN MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU ENGAGE THE AUTOPILOT. THIS
CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(d) Make sure the crank of the neutral shift mechanism [1] is in the up direction and connected
to the mach trim actuator.
1) Install the bolt [6] from the left to the right side (bolt head on the left side).
2) Install the washers [7] (under the nut) and nut [8].
a) Tighten the nut [8] to 85-100 pound-inches (9.6-11.3 newton-meters).
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUT [10] AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT
[8]. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BOLT ASSEMBLY.
3) Install the washer [9] and nut [10].
a) Tighten the nut [10] to 30-35 pound-inches (3.4-3.9 newton-meters).
(e) Connect the controls rods [27] and control rods [23] to the neutral shift mechanism [1].
1) Install the bolts [25], washers [24], washers [26], and nuts [28].

(3) Remove the rig pin E-5 of the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 from the aft control quadrant.

1. General
A. This procedure contains this task:
(1) Elevator Neutral Shift Mechanism Inspection
(a) This task supplies the data for a dimensional inspection of the elevator neutral shift
mechanism.
(b) This task does not remove or install the elevator neutral shift mechanism, refer to the
Elevator Neutral Shift Mechanism - Removal/Installation for procedures to remove and
install the elevator neutral shift mechanism.
