F. Elevator PCU Removal
(Figure 402)

(1) Remove the nuts [22], washers [21], washers [20], and bolts [19] to disconnect the four input rods
[23] from the four input cranks [18] (two on each elevator PCU).
NOTE: Move the control column to move the quadrant out of the way when there are clearance
problems with the lower input rod attach bolt.

(2) Move the four input cranks [18] forward.

(3) Install the rig pin E-5 from the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 in the elevator aft control quadrant
(Figure 402).
NOTE: To easily get access to the lower connection, set the input cranks on the rig pin E-5.
NOTE: If necessary, disconnect the vernier control pushrods [30] and [31] so that the torque
tube can be rotated to gain access to the PCU attach bolt (Fig. 402).

(4) Remove the elevator PCU [6]:
(a) Remove the nut [17], washer [16], nut [15], washer [14], bolt [12], and bushing [13] that
attach the elevator PCU [6] to the mounting brackets.
NOTE: If necessary, move the control quadrant to rotate the input cranks out of the way of
the PCU attachment bolt head.

WARNING: RELEASE THE HYDRAULIC CONNECTION SLOWLY AND LET THE PRESSURE
DECREASE BEFORE YOU COMPLETELY REMOVE THE HYDRAULIC LINES. IF
YOU DISCONNECT THE HYDRAULIC LINE WHEN IT HAS PRESSURE, A SPRAY OF
HYDRAULIC FLUID CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(b) Disconnect the hydraulic lines [3] from the elevator PCU [6].
1) Install caps and plugs on the hydraulic lines [3] and ports.
(c) Remove the nut [11], washer [10], washer [9], and bolt [8] that attach the elevator PCU [6] to
the output torque tube [7].
(d) Remove the elevator PCU [6] from the airplane.

(5) If you remove the two elevator PCUs at the same time, then install the fixture, SPL-1683 in the
position of the right elevator elevator PCU [6] (Figure 403).
(a) Put the fixture, SPL-1683 between the output torque tube and input crank.
(b) Install the pins of fixture, SPL-1683 to hold the fixture, SPL-1683 in position.
