D. Prepare for the Removal
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT ALL PERSONNEL, AND EQUIPMENT ARE AWAY FROM THE
HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. THE MOVEMENT OF THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER
DURING MAINTENANCE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL, AND DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT.
SUBTASK 27-41-31-860-001
(1) Set the stabilizer to the maximum leading edge down position using the stabilizer trim wheel.

(2) Set the stabilizer trim cutout switches to the CUTOUT position.
NOTE: The stabilizer trim cutout switches are installed on the control stand.

(3) Open these circuit breakers and install safety tags:

(4) Install the lock, SPL-1672 on the stabilizer trim wheel at the control stand (Figure 401):
(a) Turn the trim wheel to put the handle at the top of the wheel.
(b) Adjust the height of the trim lock to put the trim wheel handle correctly on the yoke.
(c) Install the pin through the yoke.
(d) Install the safety pin.

(5) To gain access to the left hinge fitting, do this step:

E. Hinge Fitting Removal
(Figure 402)
SUBTASK 27-41-31-020-001
NOTE: You must do the removal and installation of the hinge fitting on one side at a time.
(1) Remove the hinge fitting [24] from the bulkhead support structure:
(a) Remove the pin [20], nut [19], and washer [21]. Discard the pin [20].
(b) Remove the pin [22], nut [18], bushing spacer [23]. Discard the pin [22].
(c) Remove the bolts [2] and washers [3] from the bushing retainer [1].
(d) Remove the bushing retainer [1].
(e) Use the set, SPL-2026 and push out these parts:
1) The hinge insert pin [27]
2) The bushing retainer [25]
3) The hinge pin [26].
(f) Remove the adjustable hinge bushing [28], bushing spacer [16], and hinge bushing [17].
NOTE: The bushing spacer [16] will come off when you remove the adjustable hinge
bushing [28].

(2) Remove the upper thrust brace [38] and lower thrust brace [39]:
(a) Remove the pin [37], nut [36], washer [35], washer [34], and bolt [33] that attach the upper
thrust brace [38] and lower thrust brace [39] to the thrust brace fitting [51].
NOTE: Use a marker or a pin to make marks on the upper thrust brace [38] and lower
