WARNING: BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE WHEEL AND TIRE ASSEMBLY, YOU MUST DEFLATE
_______ THE TIRE OR INSPECT THE WHEEL AND TIRE TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE SAFE. INSPECT THE WHEEL AND TIRE FOR THE CONDITIONS LISTED BELOW. A DEFECTIVE WHEEL AND TIRE ASSEMBLY CAN EXPLODE DURING OR AFTER REMOVAL IF YOU DO NOT DEFLATE THE TIRE. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(7) Do one of the steps that follow:
NOTE: If you plan to install the same wheel and tire assembly and
____ the assembly is safe, it is not always necessary to deflate the tire. However, if you will not install the same wheel and tire assembly, deflate the tire to prevent transporting an inflated tire.
(a)
Inspect the wheel and tire assembly for the conditions that follow: 1) The tire is worn too much (AMM 32-45-04/601) 2) The tire has damage 3) The tire is unusaually hot 4) The wheel has damage 5) One or more of the tie bolts have damage or are missing. 6) If you find one or more of these conditions you must
deflate the tire.
(b)
Deflate the tire:
WARNING: WHEN YOU REMOVE THE VALVE ASSEMBLY, MAKE SURE THAT
_______ ALL PERSONS ARE CLEAR OF THE PATH OF THE VALVE. THE VALVE CAN BLOW OFF AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT APPLY TOO MUCH FORCE WHEN
_______ YOU TURN THE VALVE CORE. TOO MUCH FORCE CAN CAUSE THE CORE PARTS TO COME APART AND THE SLEEVE AND THE LOWER END OF THE POPPET IN THE VALVE STEM.
1) If the valve core has damage and you can not remove pressure from the tire with the tire deflation tool, do the steps that follow: a) Turn the valve assembly slowly in a counterclockwise
direction until there is gas leakage through the boss. b) Push lightly on the valve stem to release the gas.
NOTE: Do not remove the valve assembly until all the
____ gas is released from the tire.
c) Remove the valve assembly from the tire after all the pressure in the tire has been released.

2) Remove the pressure from the tire with the tire deflation tool.
F. Remove the Tire/Wheel Assembly (Fig. 401)

(1)
Do the steps that follow to remove the hubcap assembly:
(a)
Remove the clamp (11).
(b)
Remove the hubcap (12) from the wheel (1).

CAUTION: DO NOT PUT FORCE ON THE HEAT SHIELDS OF THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY WHEN
_______ YOU MOVE THE WHEEL AND TIRE ASSEMBLY. BENT HEAT SHIELDS FREQUENTLY CANNOT BE REPAIRED. AN INSTALLED BRAKE WITH A BENT HEAT SHIELD WILL CAUSE SCRATCHES ON THE INNER WHEEL WHEN THE WHEEL MOVES.
(2)
Do the steps that follow to remove the wheel and tire assembly:
(a)
Remove the two lockbolts (8), washer (9) and nut (10) from the axle nut (6).
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE TRANSDUCER ASSEMBLY FROM THE AXLE DURING
_______ THE REMOVAL OF THE WHEEL OR BRAKE. DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR IF YOU REMOVE THE TRANSDUCER ASSEMBLY FROM THE AXLE.
(b)
Use the wrench adapter to remove the axle nut (6).
(c)
Remove the washer (5).
(d)
Install the axle thread protector.
(e)
Use the wheel change dolly to lift and remove the wheel (1).
(f)
Remove the washer (5), retaining ring (4), grease seal (3) and outer bearing (2) from the wheel (1).
