Install the Switch


 S 864-017
 (1)  
Make sure the parking brake is released.

 (2)  
Put the switch and spacer in the correct position on the structure.

 (3)  
Install the screws, washers and nuts that hold the switch and spacer to the structure. Tighten the screws to a torque not greater than 10 plus or minus 1 pound inches.

Connect the wires to the switch.

Adjust the actuator for the parking brake switch (AMM 32-44-00/501).

Install the fourth middle and left ceiling panels in the passenger compartment forward of the door No. 1 (AMM 25-22-01/401).

Remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tag and close this circuit breaker:

 TIRES AND WHEELS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  Four tire/wheel assemblies are installed on each wing landing gear truck and each body landing gear truck (16 main gear tire/wheel assemblies total). Two tire/wheel assemblies are installed on the nose landing gear. Line maintenance procedures are used to service the tires, remove and install the tire/wheel assemblies and inspect the wheels and tires. All other maintenance operations on tires and wheels are done in the shop during wheel assembly overhaul.
 B.  B.F. Goodrich 49x19-22 inch wheels are used on all main landing gear locations. This wheel must be used with B.F. Goodrich carbon brakes which are standard on all 747-400 airplanes.
 C.  The nose wheels are also B.F. Goodrich 49x19-22 inch.
 D.  Nose wheel snubbers are used to stop the nose wheels from turning when the nose landing gear is retracted into the wheel well.
 2.  Wheels (Fig. 1)______
 A.  The wheel assembly contains two halves made of forged aluminum. They are held together with 18 tie bolts which are installed when the wheel halves are assembled onto the tire. A packing installed between the wheel halves prevents gas from leaking between the wheel halves when the tire is inflated.
 B.  The inner wheel half contains three valve seats. One has an inflation valve, one has an overpressure relief valve and the third seat is plugged.
 (1)  
The overpressure relief valve contains a disk which will rupture when the tire is inflated beyond safe limits. This allows the tire to deflate without tire explosion. Access to the overpressure relief valve is through a hole in the outer wheel half.

 (2)  
The tire inflation valve extends through a hole in the outer wheel half for easy access when servicing the tire.
