 HEAT EXCHANGER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  A heat exchanger is installed in the bottom of the fuel tank in each wing. This procedure gives you the instructions to remove and install the heat exchangers. The procedure is the same for the two heat exchangers.
 B.  If you get hydraulic fluid on the airplane, clean it off immediately (AMM 12-40-00/201).

 C.  Prepare for the Removal

 (1)  If the flaps are not extended, do these steps:
 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL
_______ CONTROL SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THE AILERONS, RUDDERS, ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SLATS, SPOILERS, LANDING GEAR, AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (a)  
Supply hydraulic power to hydraulic system B (AMM 29-15-00/201).

 (b)  
Put the flap control lever in the ten unit position.

 (2)  Remove hydraulic power (AMM 29-15-00/201).

Release the pressure from the applicable hydraulic reservoir (AMM 29-09-00/201).

Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:


 (a)  P6 circuit breaker panel 1) FLIGHT CONTROL SHUT-OFF VALVES BAT STDBY RUDDER 2) FLIGHT CONTROL SHUT-OFF VALVES FLAP 3) ALTERNATE TRAILING EDGE FLAP DRIVE AC 3o 4) HYDRAULIC SYSTEM ELEC HYD PUMP CONT SYS A & SYS B

Defuel the applicable fuel tank (AMM 28-23-00/201).

Remove the No. 1 access panel for the wing fuel tank
 (AMM 28-11-11/401).

 WARNING:_______OBEY ALL OF THE FUEL TANK PURGING AND ENTRY PRECAUTIONS. IF YOU DO NOT, INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE CAN OCCUR.
 (7)  Prepare the fuel tank before you get in it (AMM 28-10-00/201).
 D. Remove the Heat Exchanger (Fig. 401)

 (1)  
Disconnect the hydraulic lines from the fittings for the heat exchanger at the rear spar.

 (a)  Put caps on the lines.

 (2)  
Remove the unions, bulkhead nuts, and washers.
