POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU) - TROUBLE SHOOTING
____________________________________________
1. General_______
A. The following trouble shooting procedures are based on performance of the system test and are presented in tree-type format to aid in rapid fault isolation. The test steps (heavy-line box) are connected by arrow to show the OK condition path. When all steps in the OK condition path check out, the system is operable.
B. When a test step does not check out, follow the NOT OK line to the box containing the trouble symptom. Turn to the procedure indicated and continue to follow a single line by analyzing the results of each test step until the required corrective action is determined. Perform the specified corrective action, then repeat the step at which the failure was encountered and complete the test to check out the system.
C. All trouble shooting procedures are based on the assumption that wiring is OK and that electrical power is available. If the corrective action in the procedure does not correct the problem, check wiring using the wiring diagram.
2. Prepare for Trouble Shooting____________________________
A. Check that the following circuit breakers (P6 panel) are closed:
(1)
NOSE GEAR AIR/GND
(2)
PTU/LG BYPASS VALVE CONT 1
(3)
AIRPLANES WITH AN AUTOSLAT COMPUTER;
AUTOSLAT NO. 1 AC
(4)
AUTOSLAT NO. 1 DC
(5)
AIRPLANES WITH AN AUTOSLAT COMPUTER;
AUTOSLAT NO. 1 AC
(6)
AUTO SLAT NO. 2 DC
B. Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).
C. Make sure the two Stall Warning Vanes (Alpha Vanes) are at the zero position.
D. Fill the hydraulic reservoirs if the fluid level is below RFL
(AMM 12-12-00/301).
E. If the flaps are not extended between one and five units, do these steps:
WARNING: KEEP PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT CLEAR OF THE FLIGHT CONTROL
_______ SURFACES, THRUST REVERSERS, AND THE LANDING GEAR. THESE COMPONENTS CAN MOVE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1)
Supply hydraulic power to system B (AMM 29-15-00/201).
(2)
Put the flap control lever in the one unit position.
(3)
Remove hydraulic power from system B (AMM 29-15-00/201).

_______ THRUST REVERSERS, AND THE LANDING GEAR. THESE COMPONENTS CAN MOVE SUDDENLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION:_______PRESSURIZE THE SYSTEM B HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR. THE CHECK VALVE FOR THE PTU CAN BE DAMAGED IF YOU OPERATE THE PTU WITHOUT PRESSURE IN THE HYDRAULIC RESERVOIR.
F. Pressurize the hydraulic reservoirs (AMM 29-09-00/201).
G. Supply hydraulic power to system A with a ground service cart or the engine driven pump (EDP) (AMM 29-15-00/201).
NOTE: The electric motor driven pump does not have the capacity to
