 (j)  Standby Hydraulic System Internal Leak Check: You use this procedure to make sure the sandby hydraulic system does not have too much internal leakage.
 (3)  You can use this procedure to find the general internal condition of the hydraulic system. You can also use it for trouble-shooting the system.
 (a)  When you are trouble-shooting the hydraulic system, it is only necessary for you to do these procedures for the system (A or B) with the problem. You can feel for hot tubes or actuators, or listen for fluid leaks to find which parts have the problem. When you can, use standard tools to measure heat, vibration, or sound. Before you get near parts that move, operate them to make sure they can not hit you.

 2.  Hydraulic System External Leak Check____________________________________
 A. General
 (1)  
The chart of permitted external leakage (Table 601) gives the maximum external leakage rates for different parts. You must make a decision on the total leakage you will permit from all of the parts.

 (2)  
It is possible for leakage from a static seal to be because of a crack in its housing. This type of a leak can increase with increased pressure.

Get access to the part that has a leak.

 (2)  
Clean hydraulic fluid from the part.

 (3)  
Supply hydraulic power (AMM 29-15-00/201).

Do these steps to look for leakage, then compare it to the permitted value shown in Table 601.

 (b) Measure the leakage rate of the part.
 1)  For dynamic seals, measure the leakage rate with the part moving and stopped, if it is possible.
