2) Measure 0.50 |0.25 inch in from the inboard end of the aileron balance tab. a) Make sure the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab aligns with the extension of the aileron bottom surface between +0.00 to +0.14 inch (Fig. 510). b) Write down the distance.
3) Measure 0.50 |0.25 inch in from the outboard end of the aileron balance tab. a) Make sure the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab
aligns with the extension of the aileron bottom surface between +0.00 to +0.14 inch (Fig. 510). b) Write down the distance. 4) Measure at the middle point along the aileron balance tab.
a) Make sure that the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab aligns with the extension of the aileron bottom surface between +0.05 to +0.09 inch (Fig. 510).
b) Write down the distance.
Add the three distances measured in step (a).
Make sure the sum of these distances is between +0.30 and +0.12
inch.
Change the lengths of the adjustable tab control rods to adjust
the position of the aileron balance tabs if it is necessary
(Fig. 507).
NOTE:____Change the lengths of the control rods in a tab set. A tab set is two control rods that operate one aileron balance tab.
1) Make the control rods shorter (to lower the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab) or longer (to lift the trailing edge of the aileron balance tab) as follows:

2) Make a note of the quantity and direction of the necessary
adjustment to set the aileron balance tab to the correct
position.
3) Remove the bolts that attach the control rods to the
forward fittings (Fig. 507).
4) Remove the hinge bolts of the aileron balance tab.
5) Remove the aileron balance tab and the control rods from
the aileron.
6) Loosen the jamnuts on the control rod.
NOTE: Be careful not to change the position of the rod end____
or the rod barrel.
7) Turn the rod end for coarse adjustment or the rod barrel
for fine adjustment.
a) One half turn of the rod end changes the position of
the tab trailing edge 0.067 inch.
b) One half turn of the rod end and the rod barrel
together changes the position of the tab trailing edge
0.080 inch.
c) With the control rod and the rod end stable, one turn
of the rod barrel changes the position of the tab
trailing edge 0.027 inch.
8) Make sure there are covers on the witness holes in the rod
barrel.
9) Tighten the smaller jamnut to 100-140 pound-inches.
10) Tighten the larger jamnut to 100 pound-inches (maximum).
11) Install a lockwire on the jamnuts.
12) Install the aileron balance tab and the control rods on the aileron.
13) Use your fingers to install the rod end bolts.
14) Make sure the rod end bolt can move freely and there is no
rod movement.
a) Adjust the length of the control rod if the rod end bolt cannot move freely or there is rod movement.
