 (2)  
Before you adjust the trailing edge flaps, these checks must be satisfactory with the flaps in the up position:

 (a)  
The angular clearance between the upstops on the ballscrew yoke and the ballscrew nut must be 170 to 190 degrees (1/2 turn |10 degrees) turn. If you made a trim correction, the angular clearance can be 1/4 to 5/6 turn.

 (b)  
Adjustment of the flap transmissions is necessary if the angular clearance is more than the specified limits.

 (3)  
These checks must be satisfactory with the flaps in the 40-unit detent:

 (a)  
The clearances between the midflap trailing edge to the aftflap leading edge for the inboard ends (of the left and right flaps) and outboard ends (of the left and right flaps) must be equal. A tolerance of 0.05 inch is permitted.

 (b)  
Adjustment of the aftflap bellcrank clevis arm is necessary if


 the left and right flap clearances are not equal.Consumable Materials

Pressurize hydraulic system B (AMM 27-51-00/201).

Move the flap control lever to the 40-unit detent.

Remove the access panels from the top surface of the midflap to get access to each carriage bearing support.

Adjust the Outboard Trailing Edge Flaps

 (1)  Do these steps if a trim correction is necessary:
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE TO REMOVE ONLY ONE CARRIAGE BEARING SUPPORT AT A
_______ TIME FROM EACH FLAP. THIS IS TO PREVENT THE FLAPS FROM DAMAGE.
 (a)  
Remove the bolts that attach the left and right wing carriage bearing support (Fig. 502).

 (b)  
Measure the total shim thickness below the left and right carriage bearing supports.

 (c)  
Make a record of the total shim thickness.

 (d)  
Find the change in the shim thickness (Fig. 503).


 NOTE: The recommended total shim thickness is 0.20 inch
____ maximum. The permitted total shim thickness will not be more than 0.23 inch. The total shim thickness includes the shims installed during the assembly and installation plus the shims added for a trim correction. If you made a trim correction, the dimension between the trailing edge flap and the wing chord plane can be more than 0.00 to 0.25 inch limit.
 (e)  If the right wing is heavy and high left trim is necessary, do one of these steps to change the shim thickness:
 NOTE: The thickness of the shims on the inboard and outboard
____
 carriages must be equal.

 1) Add shims to the right supports of the carriage bearing.
