 (8)  With a spring scale, measure the force necessary to move the aileron through full travel in each direction, then back to the neutral position:
 NOTE:____The movement of the aileron must be free and smooth. Full travel does not have to be to the structural stops but to the specified distances shown in Fig. 403.
 (a)  
Apply the force perpendicular to the aileron chord plane at a point 12 inches aft of the aileron hinge centerline.

 (b)  
Make sure the maximum force is not more than 3 pounds up and 13 pounds down.

Connect the aileron control rod to the aileron (Fig. 404):

 (a)  
Apply the primer to the control rod bolt.

 (b)  
Install the bolt, bushing, washer and nut.


 NOTE: Bolt size requirement can change at this location when
____ interchanging aileron assemblies. Refer to IPC for specific hardware part numbers.
 (c)  
Tighten the nut to 60-85 pound-inches.

 (d)  
Install the cotter pin.

 Install the rigging pin A/S-4 in the aileron bus drum (Fig. 405).

 Make sure that point B on the aileron index plate aligns with point A on the wing structure index plate (use a tolerance of +/- 0.03 inch).

If it is out of tolerance, adjust the ABSA and the ABSB cables: 1) Remove the turnbuckle clip locks. 2) Adjust the turnbuckle to align the index plates and do not


 change the cable tension (Fig. 406).
 3) Install the turnbuckle clip locks.

 Install the four aileron access panels on the trailing edge of the wing surface adjacent to the aileron.

 Use the aileron control wheel to manually operate aileron through a minimum of two cycles, to full travel.

 (a)  
Make sure the aileron can move smoothly and freely.

 (b)  
Make sure the clearance between the aileron nose and the wing trailing edge is 0.30 to 0.50 inch when the aileron aligned (Fig. 402).

 (c)  
Make sure the clearances at each end of the aileron are not out of tolerance (Fig. 401).

 Do a check to make sure the two control wheels are in the neutral position:

 (a)  
Operate the control wheel to move the aileron to the full up and down positions.

 (b)  
Make sure aileron travel is not more than the specified limits as measured between the index plates on the aileron and the wing structure (Fig. 403).


 NOTE: The aileron is in the neutral (zero) position when index
____ marks on the aileron aligns with the wing structure (use a tolerance of +/- 0.03 inch).

 (18) Do this task to pressurize hydraulic systems A and B:  "Aileron Hydraulic Systems A and B Pressurization" (AMM 27-11-00/501).
 NOTE: The wing trailing edge flaps are extended one to five units.

 Do a check of the operation of the aileron:

 (a)  
At the same time, operate the aileron trim switches in the right wing down position until the trim actuator stops. 1) Make sure the left aileron moves down and the right aileron


 moves up.
