(a)
Remove or add weights if you do not have the correct number of the tab adjust weights.
(b)
Install the bolts in the holes not necessary for weight attachment.
S 644-009
(5)
Apply grease to the inner diameters of the aileron hinge bolts and bearing.
S 424-010
(6)
Install the aileron (Fig. 401):
(a)
Put the aileron in its mounting position.
(b)
Align the hinges with the support fittings.
(c)
Install the hinge bolts with the washer below the bolt head at hinge locations 2, 3, and 4. 1) Install the hinge bolts with the washer and nut. 2) Tighten the nut to 10-20 pound-inches. 3) Install the cotter pins.
(d)
Install the hinge bolt with the washer below the bolt head at the hinge location 1. 1) Install the hinge bolt with the washer and nut. 2) Tighten the nut to 100-140 pound-inches. 3) Install the cotter pin.
(e)
Lift the aileron to align the aft balance panel hinge (Fig. 402).
(f)
Install the hinge pin.
(g)
Install the hinge pin retainer.
(h)
Install the balance panel hinge seal, retaining strip, and bolts.

(i)
Connect the tab pushrods to the hinge fitting with two attach bolts, washer, and nuts.
(j)
Clean surface to give electrical bonding.
(k)
Fillet seal fastener and bonding jumper end with sealant.
(l)
Connect the bonding jumpers with applicable screw, nut, and washers.
(m)
Apply primer plus enamel to exposed bare metal not covered by faying surfaces.
(n)
Make sure the metal to metal resistance across the bond (measured at each ground stud not across the bonding jumper) is no more than 0.001 ohm.
NOTE: Place one ohmmeter probe on the terminal end of bonding
____ jumper and the other probe on the wing fixed structure. If necessary, you can do the same between the other terminal end of bonding jumper and the aileron metal frame. The resistance between the ground studs attached on the aileron itself and the adjacent non-metallic (graphite/epoxy) surfaces (of the aileron on which these grouds studs are mounted on) can be as high as 1.0 ohm. If the resistance between metallic surfaces is over 0.001 ohm, disconnect the ground strap and measure the resistance on the stud alone. If the resistance is not more than 0.001 ohm, install the ground strap, apply correct torque to the stud and measure the resistance again. Change the ground stud assembly, if the resistance is still high (Fig. 30, BAC 5117 or D6-54446 Standard Wiring Practice Manual, SWPM 20-20-00 Electrical Bonding and Grounding).
S 284-011
(7) Use a spring scale, find the necessary hinge friction forces to turn the aileron a minimum of 0.67 inch up and down through the neutral (zero) position.
NOTE: You must apply the aileron pressure very slowly and smoothly
____
if you do not want to get incorrect values.
(a)
Measure the forces at a point 12 inches aft of the hinge centerline on each aileron.
(b)
Use the index plates to measure the aileron travel (Fig. 403).
(c)
Write down the (positive) forces necessary to move each aileron through the neutral position.
(d)
Write down the (negative) forces necessary to prevent movement of the aileron through the neutral position.
(e)
Add these forces together.

(f) Make sure the result is not more than 5 pounds. 1) If the result is more than 5 pounds, do these checks: a) Make sure that all the hinge bolts are sufficiently lubricated.
b) Make sure the torque values of the hinge bolts are as specified.
