Adjust the Outboard Trailing Edge Flaps

 (1)  Do these steps if trim correction is necessary:
 NOTE: A lateral trim torque tube correction will have an effect on
____ the trim at the FLAP DOWN (40-unit) position. If you cannot make a trim torque tube correction with the flaps in the 15-unit position, a shim correction is then necessary. A trim correction for the flaps in the 15-unit position will have an effect on the lateral trim for the FLAP UP position.
 (a)  
Remove the screws that attach the coupling sleeves of the torque tube to the splines.

 (b)  
Disconnect the torque tubes from the inboard couplings of the No. 2 and/or No. 7 flap transmission.

 (c)  
If the right wing is heavy and high left trim is necessary, do one of these steps to get the necessary correction (Fig. 503): 1) Turn the torque tube to lower the right outboard flap. 2) Turn the torque tube to lift the left outboard flap. 3) Turn the torque tube to lower the right outboard flap and

 lift the left outboard flap.

 (d)  
If the left wing is heavy and high right trim is necessary, do one of these steps to get the necessary correction (Fig. 503): 1) Turn the torque tube to lower the left outboard flap. 2) Turn the torque tube to lift the right outboard flap. 3) Turn the torque tube to lower the left outboard flap and

 lift the right outboard flap.

 (e)  
Connect the torque tubes.

 (f)  
Install the couplings.

 (g)  
Install a lockwire on the coupling screw heads of the torque tube.

 (2)  
Pressurize hydraulic system B (AMM 27-51-00/201).

 (3)  
Move the flap control lever to the FLAP UP detent.

 (4)  
Operate the trailing edge flaps:

 (a)  
Move the flap control lever from the FLAP UP to the 40-unit detent.

 (b)  
Move the flap control lever back to the FLAP UP position.

 (5)  Operate the trailing edge flaps for a minimum of two full cycles and do these checks:
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE MAXIMUM ANGULAR CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE
_______ BALLSCREW UPSTOPS IS 1/4 TO 5/6 TURNS. IF THE ANGULAR CLEARANCE IS MORE THAN THE SPECIFIED LIMIT, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR DURING THE FLAP OPERATION.
 (a)  
At the FLAP UP position, make sure the ballscrew nut upstop stops in the range of 1/4 to 5/6 turns.

 (b)  
At the 40-unit position, make sure the ballscrew nut downstop stops at not more than 1/8 turn from contact.

 (6)  
If the ballscrew upstop is more than 5/6 turns from contact, do these checks again:

 (a)  
Make sure the ballscrew nut downstop stops at not more than 1/8 turn from contact at the 40-unit position.

 (b)  
Make sure the clearance between the seal support (on the lower panel of the wing trailing edge) to the leading edge of the midflap is 0.06 to 0.12 inch.

 (c)  
Adjust the seal support if it is necessary.

 (d)  
Loosen the retaining screws of the seal support.

 (e)  
Put the seal support at a position to get the correct clearance.

 (f)  
Tighten the retaining screws.

 (g)  
Fill the clearance between the skin and the seal support with sealant.

 (7)  Do a check of the adjustment of the flap position transmitters (AMM 27-58-01/501).

 4.  Trailing Edge Flaps for FLAPS UP and 15-Unit Discrepancy Adjustment___________________________________________________________________
 A. General
 (1)  This procedure contains instructions for the adjustment of the trailing edge flaps to keep a straight and level flight without high aileron trim. All lateral control surfaces, flaps, and rudder are correctly adjusted for this adjustment.
