 (e) Make sure the dimension A in the retracted position is 0.42 to
 0.62 inch less than the dimension A in the extended position.
 1)  If the change in dimension A is not in the tolerance, adjust the leaf spring: a) Move the flap control lever to the 40-unit detent to
 extend the flaps. b) Remove the five fasteners from the leaf spring. c) Remove or add the shims to get the leaf spring at the
 correct position. d) Attach the leaf spring with a bolt at the forward attach point. e) Attach the retainer with a radius filler, washer, and
 nut at each aft attach point. f) Tighten the 1/4 inch nut to 50-70 pound-inches. g) Tighten the 5/16 inch nut to 100-140 pound-inches. h) Install the cotter pins.

 (8)  Do a check of the adjustment of the outboard flap track fairings (AMM 27-51-52/501).

 CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE THE PRELOAD PAD ADJUSTMENT IS CORRECT. ADJUSTMENT OF THE SHIM THICKNESS BETWEEN THE MIDFLAP AND THE CARRIAGE BEARING SUPPORT OF THE MIDFLAP WILL CHANGE THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE PRELOAD PAD. AN INCORRECT ADJUSTMENT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PRELOAD PAD.
 (9)  
If there is a change in the shim thickness between the midflap carriage bearing support and the midflap, adjust the flap jackscrew preload cup (AMM 27-51-34/501).

 Make sure the clearance between the deflection control ramp and roller at the outboard end of the midflap is as specified (Fig. 502).

 3.  Trailing Edge Flaps for 15-Unit Discrepancy Adjustment______________________________________________________
 A. General
 (1)  
Before you adjust the trailing edge flaps, these checks must be satisfactory with the flaps in the up position:

 (a)  
The angular clearance between the upstops on the ballscrew yoke and the ballscrew nut must be 170 to 190 degrees (1/2 turn |10 degrees) turn. If you made trim correction, the angular clearance can be 1/4 to 5/6 turn.

 (b)  
Adjustment of the flap transmissions is necessary if the angular clearance is more than the specified limits.

 (2)  
These checks must be satisfactory with the flaps in the 40-unit detent:

 (a)  
The clearances between the midflap trailing edge to the aftflap leading edge for the inboard ends (of the left and right flaps) and outboard ends (of the left and right flaps) must be equal. A tolerance of 0.05 inch is permitted.

 (b)  
Adjustment of the aftflap bellcrank clevis arm is necessary if the left and right flap clearances are not equal.
