_______ BEFORE INSTALLATION. THE ROD IS A COMPONENT WITH TWO LOAD PATHS. IF YOU INSTALL A DAMAGED ROD, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.

Connect the valve control rod to the actuator valve lever (Fig. 401) (IPC 27-11-14-01, OHM 27-37-09, SB 27-1207 Parts II and III):
(a)
Install the bolt and washer.
(b)
Tighten the bolt to 45-60 pound-inches.
NOTE: Do not tighten bolt after you tighten the locknut.
____ You can cause damage to equipment.
(c)
Install the nut.
(d)
Tighten the nut to 12-25 pound-inches.
NOTE: Do not tighten bolt after you tighten the lock nut.
____ You can cause damage to equipment.
(e) Install the cotter pin.

Install the protective boot with the steps that follow (Detail D, Fig./401):
(a)
Put the protective boot on the aileron power control unit and valve control rod as shown in Detail D, Fig./401.
(b)
Install the inboard end of the boot with the two straps.
(c)
Install the outboard end of boot making sure that the boot has no preload in the outboard or inboard direction to prevent push or pull action on the valve control rod.
(d)
Install the outboard end of boot with the strap.
