 If the ballscrew upstop is more than 5/6 turns from contact, do these checks again:

 (a)  
Make sure the ballscrew nut downstop stops at not more than 1/8 turn from contact at the FLAP DOWN (40-unit) position.

 (b)  
With flaps in position, make sure the clearance of the seal support (on wing lower trailing edge panel) with the leading edge of the midflap is 0.06 to 0.12 inch.

 (c)  
Adjust the seal support if it is necessary.

 (d)  
Loosen the retaining screws of the seal support.

 (e)  
Put the seal support at a position to get the correct
 clearance.


 (f)  
Tighten the retaining screws.

 (g)  
Fill the clearance between the skin and the seal support with sealant.

 Do a check of the flap position transmitters (AMM 27-58-01/501).

 Do a check of the spoiler to flap clearance (AMM 27-61-00/501, AMM 27-62-00/501).

 Do a check of the position of the leaf spring on the outboard flap:

 (a)  
Move the flap control lever to the FLAP DOWN (40-unit) detent to extend the flaps.

 (b)  
Measure the dimension A (Fig. 502).

 (c)  
Move the flap control lever to the FLAP UP detent to retract the flaps.

 (d)  
Measure the dimension A again.

 (e)  
Make sure the dimension A in the retracted position is 0.42 to


 0.62 inch less than the dimension A in the extended position.
 1)  If the changed in the dimension A is not in the tolerance, adjust the leaf spring. a) Put the flap control lever to the FLAP DOWN (40-unit)
 detent to extend the flaps. b) Remove the five fasteners that connect the leaf spring. c) Remove or add the shims to get the leaf spring at the
 correct position. d) Attach the leaf spring with a bolt at the forward attach point. e) Attach the retainer with the radius filler, washer and nut at each aft attach point. f) Tighten the 1/4 inch nut to 50-70 pound-inches.

 g) Tighten the 5/16 inch nut to 100-140 pound-inches. h) Install the cotter pins.

 CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE THE PRELOAD PAD ADJUSTMENT IS CORRECT. ADJUSTMENT OF THE SHIM THICKNESS BETWEEN THE MIDFLAP AND THE CARRIAGE BEARING SUPPORT OF THE MIDFLAP WILL CHANGE THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE PRELOAD PAD. AN INCORRECT ADJUSTMENT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PRELOAD PAD.
 (15)
 If there is a change in the shim thickness between the midflap carriage bearing support and the midflap, adjust the flap jackscrew preload cup (AMM 27-51-34/501).

 Do a check of the adjustment of the outoard flap track fairing (AMM 27-51-52/501).

 Make sure the clearance between the deflection of the control ramp and the roller at the outboard end of midflap is as specified (Fig. 502).

The symmetrical clearances between the midflap and the aftflap of the outboard flaps are very important at the FLAP DOWN (40-unit) position.
