R  (7) Acknowledgement of User Action
R  Each time the MCDU user activates an LS key or a mode key, he
R  receives an acknowledgement of his action.
R  The new page also displays an acknowledgement of the operator
R  (insertion of a value in a line, message, etc ...).
R
R  Examples:
R  If the user wants to enter a value into a field, he will have the
R  following messages:
R  - 'OUT OF RANGE' if the value is not within the range as expected by
R  the system.
R  - 'FORMAT ERROR' if the value does not have the correct format.
R  - The message 'NOT ALLOWED' is displayed if an incorrect LS key is
R  activated.
R
R  In case of the call-up of a function, the acknowledgement is made by
R  deletion of the asterix '*'. This is next to the function name when
R  the call-up is taken into account by the system.
R  If the system is not available a message is displayed (e.g 'Printer
R  Busy').
R
R  (8) MCDU Data Entry
R  Data are entered into the computer through the keyboard.
R  First the data are entered from left to right into the scratchpad by
R  activating the alphanumeric keys on the keyboard (similar to that of
R  a type-writer). Only 22 characters may be entered into the
R  scratchpad. If more than 22 are entered, they will be ignored. The
R  23rd key press will not be accepted by the computer and the computer
R  will give no response.
R  After entry of the data into the scratchpad, the date are moved from
R  the scratchpad into the correct data field. By activating the
R  adjacent LS key, the scratchpad is cleared.
R
R  The computer checks the data for format and acceptability (out of
R  range, entry not allowed into the field, etc ...).
R  If the data are incorrect, the system will leave the previous data in
R  the data field and then display the associated message indicating the
R  error in the scratchpad. To enter the correct data, the operator must
R  do either of the following:
R  - Clear the message from the scratchpad by activating the CLR key.
R  The data that was incorrect will appear in the scratchpad. The
R  operator can then correct the data or clear it out.

R  - Enter new data into the scratchpad. This automatically clears the
R  message being displayed and replaces the previous (incorrect)
R  scratchpad data with the new data.
R  If the entry was rejected because an incorrect LS key was activated,
R  the entry will be accepted if the correct LS key is activated.
R  To clear the scratchpad of entered or incorrect data, the CLR key can
R  be used. One press of the CLR key erases the last character entered
R  in the scratchpad. A second press of the CLR key erases the second
R  last character. At the third press of the CLR key, all data in the
R  scratchpad are deleted. The same process applies if the CLR key is
R  held pressed.
R  Immediately the last character is cleared, one second later, the
R  second character is cleared, after 2 seconds the entire scratchpad
R  will be cleared of any data.
