-Storage, when an event is detected, of a user predefined data set (15 selectable parameters) specific for each event
-Up to 50 different events are possible.
 (1)
SAR History Buffer For each recording channel a history buffer is provided to facilitate pre-event recording. With the appropriate selection of the sampling rate and number of parameters, the history buffer provides pre-event recording. It is possible to enable/disable individually and independently each event through GSE or via ACARS uplink.

 (2)
 SAR Start/Stop Control

 (a) Manual Start/Stop Control It is possible to start or stop the SAR recording channel manually via the MCDU. A menu for manual request of SAR recording is provided. In the case that an automatically triggered recording is active, it is possible to start the SAR recording manually. The recording is stopped until both, the manual stop command and all affected automatical stop trigger condition have become true. If an automatically trigger becomes true during manually triggered recording, the recording also continue, until both, the manual stop command and all affected automatical stop trigger conditions have become true. A manually initiated recording is only be stopped by:

 -manual stop command
 -DMU power interrupt > 200 m/sec.
-Max. recording time limit of SAR channel is exceeded
 (b) Automatical Start/Stop Trigger The start and stop trigger condition for the SAR is programmable on the GSE and supplied to the DMU by the setup data base. An automatically triggered recording is stopped by:
 -The associated stop trigger condition
 -DMU power interrupt > 200 m/sec.
-Max. recording time limit of SAR channel is exceeded
 (3) Datatransfer between SAR and PDL To copy SAR data from the DMU to a floppy disk use the PDL. The SAR is retrieved via PDL automatically. File selection and automatic dump disc generation is done via GSE. The recording is aborted in case of following conditions:
-Recording time exceeds GSE defined limit
-Downloaded data exceeds disc memory space (1.4 Mbyte)
 N. GSE Functions The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the DMU is based on an IBM-PC compatible computer with the operational software MS-DOS release 3.3, or later. The GSE computer is able to read 3.5 inch double-side high-density magnetic-disks providing a format of at least 1.44 MBytes. The DMU vendor supplies appropriate DMU ground support software for the GSE, which provides the following functions:
-Generating and editing the DMU database
 -
Retrieval of compressed SAR data

 -
Retrieval of stored AIDS Reports

-Configuration Management Control and load history status.
 (1)
GSE Readout The GSE readout function is a ground-based software application that provides the display and printout of AIDS collected information (AIDS reports and SAR files) using a DMU external IBM compatible personal computer. AIDS data dump disks are provided to extract AIDS reports and/or compressed SAR files for decompression and for display/printout.

 (2)
GSE Reconfiguration The GSE reconfiguration function is a ground-based software application that provides for the reprogramming of certain aspects of the AIDS functions using a DMU external IBM compatible personal computer.

 P. MDDU/PDL Functions The DMU has an interface to the MDDU (if installed), which is compatible to the Airborne-Computer High-Speed Data-Loader according to ARINC Report
 615. The MDDU can be provided either by an Airborne Data Loader (ADL) or a Portable Data Loader (PDL). In case of the ADL options, the MDDU is permanently installed in the aircraft cockpit. If a PDL is used for the MDDU, only a connector is installed in the cockpit. The PDL is connected to this connector only on demand. A discrete signal (PDL enable) indicates, that the MDDU/PDL is available for the DMU. Each time a plug from a PDL is connected to the DMU, the "PDL enable" - Pin is connected to ground. This indicates the DMU, that a communication for up-and download from and to the PDL is possible. It is possible to connect a PDL directly to the test connector on the front of the DMU by the use of an adapter cable. The MDDU/PDL provides the following tasks, if the MDDU SEL discrete (or PDL enable) is connected to ground:
 -
Download of SAR data, which are stored in the SAR memory

 -
Download of AIDS reports, which are stored in the FDIMU internal solid state memory

 -
Upload of the DMU system software

 -
Upload of the setup data base from and to the PDL.
