DAR Start/Stop Control
(a) Manual Start/Stop Control It is possible to start or stop the DAR recording manually via the MCDU. A menu for manual request of DAR recording is provide. These function is indicated on the MCDU menu by written the message:
-"DAR=STOPPED"
-"DAR=RUNNING"
(b) Automatic Start/Stop Control The start and stop trigger condition for the DAR is programmable on the GSE, supplied to the DMU by the setup data base.

Change of the Optical Disk
(a) Removal of the optical disk:
-check that the DAR is energized, - open the recorder front access door,
-push the EJECT pushbutton,
-check that the alphanumeric display reads EJECTING,
-remove the optical disk.
NOTE : The optical disk drive has an emergency mechanical media
____ eject capability to remove the disk if the DAR is not energized.
(b) Insertion of the optical disc:
-make sure that the DAR is energized,
-check that the alphanumeric display reads INSERT CARTRIDGE, - open the recorder front access door,
-insert the optical disk into the recess and push in fully,
-
check that the alphanumeric display reads DISK DETECTED,
-
check that the alphanumeric display reads OQAR READY,
-close the recorder front access door.

(6) Indicators Failure Status LED A failure status LED, mounted on the front panel indicates DAR component failures. During Power-up of the DAR the LED illuminates until the DAR is in the correct operation. Alphanumeric Display Display A 16-character alphanumeric display, mounted on the front panel indicates DAR low lewel failures, status messages and gives control/guidelines for the menu/mode functions of the DAR. Activity Indicator An activity indicator,integrated in the optical disk drive indicates that the drive is in operation.

L. GSE Functions The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for the FDIMU is based on an IBM-PC compatible computer with the operational software WINDOWS. The GSE computer is able to read 3.5 inch double-side high-density magnetic-disks with formatted data of at least 1.44 Mbytes. The FDIMU vendor supplies appropriate FDIMU ground support software for the GSE, which has these functions:
-Generation and editing of the FDIMU setup data base
-
Retrieval of compressed SAR data
-
Retrieval of stored AIDS Reports
-Configuration Management Control and load history status.

GSE Readout The GSE readout function is a ground-based software application that provides the display and printout of AIDS collected information (AIDS reports and SAR files) using a FDIMU external IBM compatible personal computer. AIDS data dump disks are provided to extract AIDS reports and/or compressed SAR files for decompression and for display/printout.

GSE Reconfiguration The GSE reconfiguration function is a ground-based software application that is used for the reprogramming of certain aspects of the AIDS functions using a FDIMU external IBM compatible personal computer.

M. MDDU/PDL Functions The FDIMU has an interface to the MDDU (if installed), which is compatible to the Airborne-Computer High-Speed Data-Loader according to ARINC Report 615. The MDDU is provided either by an Airborne Data Loader (ADL) or a Portable Data Loader (PDL). In case of the ADL options, the MDDU is permanently installed in the aircraft cockpit. If a PDL is used for the MDDU, only a connector is installed in the cockpit. The PDL is connected to this connector only on demand. A discrete signal (PDL enable) indicates, that the MDDU/PDL is available for the FDIMU. Each time a plug from a PDL is connected to the FDIMU, the "PDL enable" -Pin is connected to ground. This indicates the FDIMU, that a communication for up- and download from and to the PDL is possible. It is possible to connect a PDL directly to the test connector on the front of the FDIMU by the use of an adapter cable. The MDDU/PDL provides the following tasks, if the MDDU SEL discrete (or PDL enable) is connected to ground:
