-Retrieval (download) of generated data which belongs to the application
on the additional processor board (CPU-2) e.g. SAR files. Adequate safe guards is implemented to prevent the DMU from inadvertant loading of wrong software or database files. Each disk used for the DMU related data transfer is marked by the user with an identification code. This code identify the adressed aircraft system (DMU) and the type of data being transfered. Cycle redundancy checks (CRC) is performed on data transfered via disk to ensure data integrity.
 (1) MDDU Up- and Download Function The detailed MDDU up- and download function defined by the vendor and described in an assosiated document.
 N. ACARS Functions The DMU is able to manage different functions to send data via ACARS to the ground (Downlink) or receive data via ACARS from grouped (Uplink).
 (1) Report Content Reducing to Data Lines and Special Rules for the Transmission of Report to ACARS
ALL reports transmitted to ACARS are stripped off from information which is not necessary for ACARS. The data lines including line identifiers without checksum are transferred. Each transmitted value is sparated by a comma. After each line a slash is transmitted as a line separator. For the transmission of reports to ACARS there are special rules as follows:
-for the A/C identification (tail number) a space instead of a slash is used,
-if the 3 header lines are empty they are transmitted as ',/,/,/', - one slash character '/' follow the report IMI character,
-there is no charater separating the line identifier and the first data value in each report data line,
 1EFF : 151-199, 201-210, 1 31-36-00Page A9 1 1 Config-2 Aug 01/05R 1 1 1CES 1

 - only one comma charater ',' separate each data value in a report data line,
 - only one comma character ',' separate each word in a report text line,
 - only one slash charater '/' follow each line in the report,
-each block transmit to ACARS containing report data contain approximately 186 charaters(no short blocks) including the control/accountability header and the 'ETB' or 'ETX' character.
 (a) Transmission of System Data to ACARS It is possible to program the DMU to transmit at least 40 parameters. This function is programmable via the MCDU to the ACARS MU. These parameters are copied from the DMU dits inputs to the DMU output bus B.
 (2) Data Transfer
 (a)
Protocol The system transmitting the data is called 'the source', the receiving system is called 'the sink'.

 (b)
Need for message transfer When a source has data to tranmit, it send an RTS (Request to Send) word to the sink. A sink ignore any received transmission that is not preceded by an RTS word. The block word count field contains the binary coded number of ARINC 429 words the source has to tranmit.

 (c)
Normal response to RTS The sinks normal response to an RTS word is a CTS (Clear to Send) word. The sink status field indicates to the source whether or not the sink ca accept data:

 Bits 9 - 16  Meaning
binary zeros  sink not ready to accept message
BNR word count same as in RTS word  sink ready to accept message
ISO 5 charater Q  sink busy

The sink waits a maximum of 1.5 seconds after responding with a ready status. If the message has not been completed by the end of this time, the sink 'NAK' the source and clear the received data. If the source receives a 'not ready' CTS word or no valid CTS or a conflicting RTS, is waits 200 ms from the time of the RTS transmission and then retransmit the RTS word. If the third attempt does not produce a 'ready' response from the sink, the source have to reinitiate another sequence.
R 1EFF : 151-199, 201-210, 1 31-36-00Page A10 1 1 Config-2 Aug 01/05 1 1 1CES 1 If there is three times no answer to an RTS the DMU observe label 172 from the ACARS MU. If the label is not transmitted within 2 second the DMU generate the class III message 'NO ACARS DATA'. If label 172 is detected the DMU generate the message 'ACARS COMMUNIC FAIL'.

 A. Energization During normal operation the AIDS is automatically in normal mode at the power-on condition. The FDIMU is supplied directly from busbar 202XP (115VAC). The DAR (optional) is supplied from the busbar 204PP (28VDC) and the busbar 202XP (115VAC).
 B. Control and Indication via MCDU The communication with the aircraft systems is done via a Multipurpose Control Display Unit (MCDU) according to ARINC-739. The control of the FDIMU is done by an interactive and menu controlled user interface.
