the data line next to the LSK.
On the data line there are five kinds of display:
-Cyan data if the data is already in the computer and the operator can modify it.
-Green data if the data is already in the computer but it cannot be modified by an operator entry.
-Cyan brackets (- -) if no value is defined and the operator can enter the data.
-Amber boxes ( ) if no value is defined. Then the data entry is mandatory for the correct functioning of the system. Or for the achievement of the function described on the page or on the label line.
-White dashes ( --- ) if the field is filled by the computer but not yet available. Due to lack of information or a computation has not yet been or a computation has no yet been achieved.

The entry format of data is described by the number of boxes or the place occupied by the brackets, or the spaces between brackets. On one data line, several data may be displayed and entered : the different fields are separated by a slash ('/'). Each field may be entered separately; it is identified by the number of slashes in front of the entered data: e.g.: EQ/SYS/LAB/SDI to modify the label, the operator has to enter into the scratchpad : '//label'.

Clearing Messages Any message that is displayed can be cleared by activating the CLR key. Messages are automatically cleared under the following conditions:
-
When data are entered into the scratchpad
-
When LS or MODE key is activated
-
When the reason is no longer valid.

Use of more than one MCDU at the same Time The DMU or FDIMU (if installed) communicates with one MCDU only at the same time. If MCDU communication is requested from any of these MCDU's while communication is already active on another MCDU, the DMU or FDIMU (if installed) responds with the message: "AIDS (TIMEOUT)". (Ref. Fig. 011)
D.
MCDU Operation The MCDU is operated via several keys (line select, mode, function). The acknowledgement of the user action is indicated on the screen.

The DMU will issue a MCDU 'RETURN' when the '<' and the sign 'RETURN'
are shown in line 13 and the key 6L is activated. This means that the
display will change to the previous 'higher' menu level.
The menus themselves are described in the following paragraphs.
(3) MCDU Display Print (Ref. Fig. 014) The DMU issues an MCDU display print when the sign 'PRINT' and the star are shown in line 13. It also needs 6R to be activated. The display content is printed in the same format as it is shown on the display when 6R on the MCDU is activated. If the necessity of the scroll function is indicated, which means that more information is available than shown on the display, the complete information is printed. Each of these print outs is transmitted with a header containing A/C identification, date, UTC, City pair and Flight number. In the example, a display print initiation of the 'AIDS MAN REQ REP'-menu is shown. Structure of Multiple Page MCDU Menu Print Out
