 K. DMU Programming Two different types of software packages are given. The DMU operational software and the DMU database software. These two software types have to be load into the DMU to give the complete functions. Only the DMU database software are subject of customer reprogramming. In addition a subset of the configuration data provided by the DMU database are reconfigurable on board the aircraft, via the MCDU.
 (1) Operational Software Programming Reprogramming of the operational software is only necessary, if a new modified software version is required or due to recognized software faults or future sytem modifications. Configuring the DMU for the specific requirements and applications of a customer shall require only reprogramming of the database by the use of the GSE reconfiguration function. Modification of the microprocessor code of the DMU operationalsoftware is reserved to the DMU vendor.

 Database Programming The DMU database is reprogrammable by the use of the GSE reconfiguration software. An initial DMU database software is provided by the DMU vendor. This initial database is provide the configuration data required for the AI defined standard reports. A lockout mechanism is provided for the GSE reconfiguration software, which prevents the AI reserved functions and constants from being modified by the customer. A subset of the configuration data of the AI standard DMU database is reprogrammable by the customer via the GSE. Furthermore the customer have the possibility to define additional trigger conditions, reports and global variables. Also the parameters recorded on the DAR or SAR are determined by the GSE programming.
