19 HEADING CONTROLS CLOCKWISE. THE CONTROL ALSO CONTAINS A PUSHBUTTON WHICH IS USED FOR MANUAL SELECTION OF THE HEADING SELECT MODE. CLOCKWISE, AND DECREASE AS THE KNOB IS TURNED COUNTER-THE HEADING DISPLAY WILL INCREASE AS THE KNOB IS TURNED SELECT MODE. 21 SPEED SELECT/SYNC CONTROL COUNTERCLOCKWISE. THE CONTROL ALSO CONTAINS A PUSHBUTTON KNOB IS TURNED CLOCKWISE AND DECREASES AS THE KNOB IS TURNED IAS/MACH INDICATOR. THE DISPLAYED SPEED INCREASES AS THE USED TO CHANGE THE SPEED (IN KNOTS OR MACH NUMBER) ON THE SWITCH. UNLESS THE SPEED MODE, FLIGHT LEVEL CHANGE MODE, THE TAKEOFF MODE (PITCH AXIS) OR THE GO-AROUND MODE (PITCH AXIS) IS ENGAGE, THE FIRST PRESS OF THE PUSHBUTTON WILL CAUSE THE IAS/MACH INDICATOR TO BLANK AND THE SECOND PRESS WILL CAUSE THE CURRENT SPEED TO BE DISPLAYED. WHEN THE INDICATOR IS BLANK, CONTROL OF THE AIRSPEED BUGS ON THE MASI IS FROM THE FLIGHT MANAGEMENT COMPUTERS.

Pressing the vertical speed (V/S) mode select switch/light initiates a V/S mode discrete request. This discrete generates a manual ON signal which arms the vertical speed mode if the FCC is engaged in CMD or the F/D is on and the airplane is airborne.
(a) The dot-bar matrix annunciator in the V/S switch/light illuminates when the MCP receives V/S OPER from the FCCs. V/S OPER is also sent to the EIUs to display V/S PFDs.

Pressing the HDG HOLD mode select switch/light initiates a heading hold mode request discrete. This discrete generates a manual ON signal which arms the heading hold mode if the FCC is engaged in CMD or the F/D is on and the airplane is airborne.
