 A.  There are two tasks in this procedure. The first task is for the visual inspection of the lateral autopilot servo (LAS) mechanical linkage. The second task is for the full inspection of the LAS mechanical linkage.
 B.  In the first task, you do not have to remove the LAS mechanical linkage. In the second task, you have to remove the LAS mechanical linkage for a full inspection of the worn areas. Usually you use the second task when you do the overhaul of the LAS mechanical linkage.

 2.  LAS Mechanical Linkage Visual Inspection (Fig.________________________________________601)
 A.  General

 (1)  This procedure is for a visual inspection of the LAS mechanical linkage for bends, cracks, corrosion, or worn areas. In this procedure, you do not have to remove the mechanical linkage if it is not necessary.

 WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY DO THE STEPS IN THE TASK BELOW TO INSTALL
_______ THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE LANDING GEAR DOORS. THE DOORS CAN CLOSE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE DOOR LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  
Do this task: "Install the Door Locks on the Body Landing Gear" (Ref 32-00-30/201).

 (2)  
Remove hydraulic pressure from the hydraulic systems 1, 2, 3, and 4 (Ref 29-11-00/201)

 (3)  
Put the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER WING 1, 2, 3, and 4 switches to the SHUTOFF position. The switches are on the Pilot's Overhead Maintenance Panel (P461).

 (a)  P7 Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
 1) 7D12 FLT CONT CMPTR C SERVO
 2) 7D13 FLT CONT CMPTR C PWR
 3) 7E9 MCP L
 4) 7E18 MCP R

 (5)  Visually examine these parts for bends, cracks, corrosion, or worn areas:
 (a)  
LAS output lever.

 (b)  
Control rod.

 (c)  
Bearings on the control rod.

 (d)  
Bolts and nuts which attach the control rod.

 (1)  This procedure is for a full inspection of the worn areas. To do this check, you have to remove the LAS mechanical linkage. Usually you use this procedure when you do the overhaul of the LAS mechanical linkage.

Micrometer

Vernier Caliper

 C. Procedure

Remove the parts that are necessary for a full inspection.

Examine the parts:

 (a)  Use a micrometer or a Vernier Caliper to measure the parts.
