(d) All three FCCs share autoland status information with each other over the cross-channel data buses. The shared information allows each FCC to monitor the autoland status of the other two FCCs.
(2)
Main EICAS Annunciation
(a)
The autopilot and autoland systems status are annunciated on the main Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) display. All three FCCs share the status information. The status information is sent to the main EICAS display via the EIUs.
(b)
Three levels of EICAS messages related to autopilot and autoland status may be displayed. Level A messages are displayed when there is a loss of all engaged autopilots. Level B messages are displayed when there is a loss of sensor inputs to the autopilot or a degradation of the autoland system below 1500 feet and during multi-channel engagement. Level C messages are displayed when there is a degradation of the autoland system above 1500 feet and not multi-channel engaged. These messages also activate the master warning and master caution lights.
(3)
Master Caution Light
(a) The master caution lights come on when specific autopilot conditions exist which require crew awareness. The FCCs supply a signal to the Modularized Avionics Warning Electronics Assembly (MAWEA) via the EIU. During a caution annunciation, an aural tone sounds and an amber message is displayed on the main EICAS display (Ref 31-61-00/001).
(4)
Master Warning Light
(a)
The master warning lights come on and a two-tone siren, or two special tone siren dedicated to the AP/FD system (optional), sounds when the armed and engaged servos of all channels become disengaged. Each FCC generates two sets of warning signals. One set starts a sequence to turn on the master warning light and aural warning. The other set is responsible for displaying a message on the main EICAS display.
(b)
The FCC sends a hardware (A/P WARN 1) and a software (A/P WARN 1) signal to the EIU. The EIU then sends these signals to the main EICAS to display the red AUTOPILOT DISC message. The FCC also sends a hardware (A/P WARN 2) and a software (A/P WARN 2) signal to MAWEA. The MAWEA uses these signals to turn on the master warning light and the aural tone. In the event of a power failure, the left EIU uses standby power to display the red AUTOPILOT DISC message.
