Set the FLT CONTROL HYD POWER WING 1, 2, 3, and 4 switches to the NORM position.

 AUTOPILOT/FLIGHT DIRECTOR SYSTEM WARNING AND ANNUNCIATION -

 1.  General_______
 A.  Component Location (Fig. 1)
 B.  The warning and annunciation functions of the Flight Control Computers (FCCs) provide Autopilot/Flight Director System (AFDS) status and alert the crew to system failures. The following displays are provided:
 (1)  
Two master caution and warning lights (Ref 31-51-00/001) located on the pilots' glareshield (P72).

 (2)  
Two Primary Flight Displays (PFDs), one on the P1 panel and one on the P3 panel. The PFDs (Ref 31-61-00/001) display the following annunciations:

 (a)  
Flight mode annunciation

 (b)  
Flight mode failure annunciation

 (c)  
Autopilot CMD engage status annunciation

 (d)  
Flight Director (FD) engage status annunciation

 (e)  
Autoland status annunciation

 

 (3)  
Main Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS) Display located on pilots' center instrument panel (P2). The main EICAS displays the following messages:

 (a)  
Level A message, displayed on line one in RED.

 (b)  
Level B messages, displayed on line two in AMBER.

 (c)  
Level C messages, displayed on line three, indented one character, in AMBER.

 


 C.  AFDS Warning and Annunciation (Fig. 2)
 (1)  PFD Annunciation
 (a)  
The operational (armed and engaged) flight modes are annunciated on the Primary Flight Displays (PFDs). The displays include autopilot/flight director engage and autoland status. The armed and engaged modes for pitch and roll are also displayed. Mode failures are displayed with a yellow line striking through the annunciation and the F/D bars are removed. The PFDs are controlled by the EFIS/EICAS Interface Unit (EIU). The EIUs receive F/D pitch and roll commands and mode status information from the FCCs.

 (b)  
All three FCCs share CMD mode information with each other over the cross-channel data buses. With a FCC engaged in the CMD mode, both PFDs display the CMD mode annunciation.

 (c)  
Autoland status annunciation is displayed on the PFDs, replacing the CMD or FD engage status annunciation. During an approach, each FCC sends autoland status messages to the captain's and first officer's PFD via the EIUs. The PFDs also display the loss of the autoland capability while in approach mode, multi-channel engaged, and below 1500 feet radio altitude.
