1. General_______
A. Autoflight Systems (Fig. 1)
(1)
The Autopilot/Flight Director System (AFDS) provides automatic control of the ailerons, elevators, stabilizer, and rudder control systems during selected flight modes. It provides pitch and roll flight director commands, system warnings and cautions, and mode annunciations. Rudder directional control is provided during the multi-channel approach and landing rollout.

The Yaw Damper System (YDS) provides automatic yaw damping via the rudder to minimize oscillations due to dutch roll, gust induced sideslip and turbulence induced structural body bending modes. It also provides turn coordination.

The Automatic Stabilizer Trim (AST) System uses Flight Control Computer (FCC) commands as input to the Stabilizer Trim/Rudder Ratio Modules (SRMs). The SRMs use this signal to provide trim commands to the stabilizer via the Stabilizer Trim Control Modules (STCMs). This system is only active when an autopilot channel is engaged.

The Speed Trim System improves the airplane's stability by trimming the stabilizer as airspeed changes. Electric, manual or automatic stabilizer trimming inhibits this system.
