ATC TRANSPONDER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

2. Remove ATC Transponder
______________________
A. Open ATC 1 and ATC 2 circuit breakers on panel P7.
B. On AF 101-151; LH 001-010, 031-050, 071-081; AZ 201-219; IB 401, 402 and 405; SN ALL, disconnect cable connectors on front of transponder, loosen hold-down fasteners at front of unit, and pull out transponder.
C. On AF 152-199; AZ 221-299; LH 011-030, 051-070, 082-099; AT ALL; GN ALL; IB 406 and on; MD ALL; VM ALL, loosen hold-down fasteners at front of unit and pull out transponder.
3. Install ATC Transponder

A. Slide transponder into rack and secure.
B. Close circuit breakers opened in step 2.A. above.
C. Test Transponder
(1)
Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00).
(2)
Select STBY on ATC control module and allow 1-minute warmup.
(3)
Select mode A on ATC control module.
(4)
On ATC control module, set ATC switch to select installed transponder.
(5)
On AF 101-151; LH 001-010, 031-050, 071-081; AZ 201-219; IB ALL; SN ALL, press TEST button on ATC control module and verify that MONITOR light glows.
(6)
On AF 152-199; AZ 221-299; LH 011-030, 051-070, 082-099; AT ALL; GN ALL; MD ALL; VM ALL, press test button on the selected ATC transponder and verify that reply light glows and fault indicators do not come on.
(7) Release TEST button. XA (8) For all US registered airplanes, XA perform altitude reporting test in par. 3., 4. or 5. of ATC system XA Adjustment/Test procedure (Ref 34-53-00).

On AF 101-151; LH 001-010, 031-050, 071-081; AZ 201-219; IB ALL; SN ALL, set function selector to OFF.
(10)
On AF 152-199; AZ 221-299; LH 011-030, 051-070, 082-099; AT ALL; BN ALL; MD ALL; VM ALL, select STBY position 1 on ATC control module.
(11)
Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-00).

Varnish brush - 1- or 2-inch

Spatula

(1)
Aerodynamic smoother - class B-1/2 (Ref 20-30-05).
(2)
Accelerator - as indicated on aerodynamic smoother container (Ref 20-30-05).
(3)
Aliphatic Naphtha - TT-N-95, or equivalent (Ref 20-30-01).
(4)

(5)
C00175 Primer - BMS 10-79 type III
(6)
B00148 Solvent - Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)

D00294 Grease - BMS 3-24

Cheese Cloth - lint free

3. Remove ATC Antenna__________________
A. Open ATC circuit breakers on panel P7.
B. Remove four fasteners from antenna base.
C. Use cutting tool to remove aerodynamic smoother from antenna base and mounting area.
D. Lower antenna and disconnect coaxial connector.
4. Install ATC Antenna___________________
A. Clean the airplane surface in the antenna area with the solvent (BMS 11-7) and a clean rag.
