 4. Antennas
________ AF A. Two conventional blade type antennas are dedicated to ATC 1, one upper AF antenna on the top of the fuselage and one lower antenna below the AF fuselage. Each antenna can transmit and receive signals from the AF transponder which uses the antenna with the greatest received signal AF strength. AF B. ATC 2 is connected to a third antenna of the same type located below the AF fuselage.
 5. ATC Interfaced Systems
______________________ AF A. ATC 1 transponder receives an air/ground condition signal through the ATC AF control panel to inhibit ATCRBS replies when the airplane is on the AF ground. (ATC 1 mode S replies and squitter are not inhibited on the AF ground). ATC 1 is connected to the TCAS computer through two ARINC 429 AF buses for TCAS coordination purposes. AF 6. _________
Operation AF A. Control AF (1) Turn on procedure. AF (a) Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201). AF (b) Set the function selector on the ATC control panel to STBY. AF (c) Close the following circuit breakers on P7 overhead circuit AF breaker panel: AF 1) ATC 1 AC AF 2) ATC 2 AC AF (d) Select ATC transponder 1 or 2 as desired using the ATC control AF panel function selector. AF (e) Set the altitude reporting switch to ON. AF AF NOTE:____In the case ATC 2 circuit breaker was open, wait for the AF automatic built-in warm-up delay of 60 seconds applies AF power to the output stage.  ATC SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING
_____________________________
 1.  General
_______
 A.  The following trouble shooting procedures are based on performance of the operational and system tests and are presented in tree-type format. The test steps (heavy-line box) are connected by shaded arrows to show the OK condition path. When all steps in the OK condition path check out, the system is operable.
 B.  When a test step does not check out, follow the NOT OK line to the box containing the trouble symptom. Turn to the procedure indicated and continue to follow a single line by analyzing the results of each test step until the required corrective action is determined. Perform the specified corrective action, then repeat the step at which the failure was encountered.
 C.  All trouble shooting procedures are based on the assumption that wiring is OK and that electrical power is available. If the corrective action in the procedure does not correct the problem, check wiring using the wiring diagram.
 D.  The trouble shooting procedures are for either ATC system No. 1 or ATC system No. 2.
 2.  Prepare for Trouble Shooting
____________________________
 A.  Check that all ATC system circuit breakers on P7 panel are closed.
 B.  Place ATC control module switches as follows:
ATC Function Select or MODE Switch - A
ATC Transfer - Position No. 1 or No. 2 as applicable
ATC ALT (RPTG or REPORT) - OFF

 C.  Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00, Maintenance Practices (Apply Power)).
NOTE: Allow at least 1-minute warmup.
