Directional Antenna (Fig. 1) AF A. The directional antenna is an electronically steerable phased array that AF has four top loaded monopole elements. The directional antenna is AF connected to the TCAS computer with four coaxial cables that have TNC AF plugs on the antenna end. AF B. The TCAS uses two directional antennas. One is installed on top and the AF other is installed on the bottom of the airplane. These antennas AF transmit to and receive signals from intruder airplanes. AF C. Each of the four elements of the directional antenna has a resistor that AF goes from the antenna element to ground. Each of the four resistors has AF a different value. The TCAS computer regularly does a continuity test on AF the antenna ports and will see the corect resistance value if the port is AF not shorted and not open. AF 4. _________
RA/TA VSI (Fig. 3) AF A. One RA/TA VSI is installed on each pilot's instrument panel. The AF Vertical Speed Indication is always shown on these instruments regardless AF of the ATC/TCAS control panel function selector position. AF B. The traffic are displayed on the center of the instrument and resolution AF advisories graphic bands are displayed around the vertical speed scale. AF C. TCAS traffic are shown on the RA/TA VSI when the ATC/TCAS control panel AF function selector is either on TA ONLY or on TA/RA position. Resolution AF advisories are shown only if the selector is on TA/RA position. The red AF band is the vertical speed range to avoid. The green band is the AF vertical speed range the pilots must attain. AF D. TCAS Indications:
