CENTRAL INSTRUMENT WARNING SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_____________________________________________________________
1. General_______(Fig. 1.)
A. The central instrument warning system (CIWS) monitors data inputs to the flight instruments and illuminates appropriate annunciator lights on each pilots' instrument panel when the input data is invalid. One system is installed in the airplane consisting of a CIWS computer, captain's and first officer's CIWS annunciators, and captain's and first officer's self-test switches. On AF ALL; AT ALL; AZ ALL; GN ALL; MD ALL; SN ALL; VM ALL; IB 406-499; LH 011-099; PLUS ATLAS AIRPLANES INCORPORATING SB 34-2059, The system also includes a captain's and first officer's attitude comparator aural warning unit.
B. The system performs the following:
(1)
Monitors warning flag signals from the horizontal situation indicators (HSI), attitude director indicators (ADI), inertial navigation system (INS), magnetic heading reference system (MHRS), VOR/ILS system,
(2)
Compares the roll and pitch attitude displays in the ADI's.
