 (9)  Apply a very thin layer of BMS 3-27 on the mating surfaces of the
 antenna.
 (a) Do not get BMS 3-27 on the O-ring or in the O-ring groove.

 (10) Connect the coaxial connector to the antenna.

 Cover coaxial connector base, brass stud on antenna (if installed) and lower area of moisture guard with Dow Corning No. 4 anticorrosion compound (Fig. 201).

 (12)
 Align the holes on the antenna with the holes on the airplane.

 (13)
 Make sure the fasteners are cadmium-plated stainless steel fasteners.

 (a)  If not, replace the fasteners.

 (14)
 Install 3 of the 4 fasteners which attach the antenna to the airplane structure.

 (15)
 Measure the electrical bond resistance between the antenna base and the airplane skin. Resistance should not exceed 25 milliohms (AMM 20-22-01/601).

 (16)
 Install the last fastener.

 (17)
 Use solvent, Series 95 (Ref AMM/SOPM 20-30-95), to clean the BMS 3-27 from around the flange of the antenna and the fasteners.


 NOTE: Sealant will not bond to BMS 3-27.

 Apply aerodynamic smoother/sealant BMS 5-95 around the base of the antenna (AMM 51-31-01/201).

 (19)
 Apply a layer of sealant BMS 5-95 on the surface of the fasteners (AMM 51-31-01/201).


 8.  Perform the Post Installation Test
___________________________________
 A.  After installing the indicator, verify that DME indicator instrument lights come on.
 B.  After installing the interrogator, select 108.00 MHz on VHF Nav. control panel and depress TEST button.
 C.  Check that the following readout appears on the DME distance indicators:
 (1)  
On airplanes LH ALL; AF ALL; AZ ALL; IB ALL; VM ALL, readout 000.0.

 (2)  
On airplanes SN ALL,
 readout 94.5.

 

 D.  After installing the antenna, tune to a local VORTAC station and check for distance indication. If no station is available, a system test (Ref 34-55-00, Adjustment/Test) is recommended.

 DME SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This section contains an operational test and system test of the DME system. The operational test is intended to be used without tools or test equipment for a relatively quick check of the operational status of the system. Special tools and equipment are required for the system test.
 2.  Operational Test - DME System

 A.  Referenced Procedures
 (1) 24-22-00, Manual Control - Maintenance Practices (Apply Power)
 B.  Prepare for Test
 (1) Ensure that following circuit breakers at P7 panel are closed:
 On LH 001-010, 031-050, 071-080; AF 101-171; AZ 201-220; SN 301-350,
 IB 405,
 DME 1 - AC
 DME 1 - DC
 DME 2 - AC
 DME 2 - DC

 On LH 011-030, 051-070, 082-099; AF 172-199; AZ 221-299; IB 406-499;
 SN 351-399; AT ALL; GN ALL; MD ALL; VM ALL, DME 1 - AC DME 2 - AC
 (2)  Provide electrical power. Refer to 24-22-00.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE EQUIPMENT COOLING IS OPERATING BEFORE TURN ON OF
_______ ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS, OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT MAY RESULT. EQUIPMENT COOLING SYSTEM MUST BE SET FOR NORMAL COOLING AS DESCRIBED IN 21-58-00.
 C.  Test DME System Operation
 (1)  On XA ALL EXCEPT LH 014, 061-069, 084-099 and SN 351-399, place DME function select switch on captain's VHF NAV control panel to DME position.
 NOTE: Allow approximately 2 minutes for warmup.

 (2)  
Adjust frequency tuning controls for 108.00 MHz.

 (3)  
On SN 301-350, press and hold test button and check that within a few seconds, the numerals 094.5 appear on captain's and first officer's DME DISTANCE indicators (in MILES 1 sections).

 (4)  
On XA ALL EXCEPT SN 301-350, press and hold test button (or hold function select switch to DME) and check captain's and first officer's DME DISTANCE indicators for the following: indicators are blank for 2 seconds, followed by dashed lines for 2 seconds, then followed by 000.0 (|0.2) miles.

 (5)  Repeat operational test using first officer's VOR/DME control panel and DME 2 sections of the DISTANCE indicators.
