E. On AF 152-199; AZ 221-299; LH 011-030, 051-070, 082-099; AT ALL; GN ALL; MD ALL; VM ALL; SN 351, 352, the four identification coding select switches set the 4-digit code in the display window. The TEST button when pressed simulates a received interrogation. The REPLY light indicates that the transponder is transmitting coded replies. The IDNT button when pressed causes an identification pulse to be inserted in each transmitted reply. The FAULT light indicates transponder or antenna fault.
F. The control modules receive 0 to 5 volts ac from control stand lights dimmer transformer through the SEC PROT circuit breaker on P5 panel (Ref 33-11-00, Pilots' Panel Lights).
3. ATC Transponder
_______________
A. On LH 001-010, 031-050, 071-081; AZ 201-219; SN 301, 302, the ATC transponders, located on shelf E3-6 in the main equipment center are housed in a standard 1/2 ATR long case. Electrical connections are made to the unit through a connector on the rear of the case and to two BNC connectors on the front. A SELF TEST button and MONITOR light are mounted on the front panel of the unit.
B. On AF 152-199; AZ 221-299; LH 011-030, 051-070, 082-099; AT ALL; GN ALL; MD ALL; VM ALL; SN 351, 352, the ATC transponders, located on shelf E3-6 in the main equipment center are housed in standard 3/8 ATR short cases. All electrical connections to the unit are made through a connector located on the lower portion of the rear panel. An auxiliary connector located on the upper portion of the rear panel is provided for automatic test equipment.
4. Antenna
_______
A. The two ATC antennas are conventional blade-type units connected to the transponders by coaxial cable. Each antenna performs the transmitting and receiving functions for its respective transponder.
5. Operation (Fig. 3)
_________
A. Functional Description
(1) General
(a) The ATC system replies to all valid ground station interrogations with a coded reply pulse train. The reply signals are used by the ground station to locate and identify transponder equipped airplanes. The ATC system receives pulse-coded interrogations in one of three modes as determined by the spacing between the pulses. Modes A and B are used for air traffic identification; mode C is used for automatic altitude reporting.

Interrogation signals detected by the ATC system are analyzed to determine their mode and source. Either the main lobe or
side lobe of the ground station radar may contain interrogations, but only main lobe interrogations are accepted. If the mode selected on the control module is A or B and matches the mode of the interrogation, the signals are accepted and a reply is transmitted. When the altitude reporting switch is turned on, mode C interrogations are accepted regardless of the mode selected. If the altitude reporting switch is turned off, mode C interrogations are not accepted. 中国航空网 www.aero.cn 航空翻译 www.aviation.cn 本文链接地址:747飞机维护手册AMM CHAPTER 34 - NAVIGATION 第34章导航4(57)
