 B.  The N1 pointer displays percent RPM readings against a graduated scale. Percent RPM readings are also displayed on the N1 counter. Data signals that drive the N1 pointer and counter are produced by an engine mounted N1 tachometer transmitter. An engine overspeed is indicated by the maximum N1 pointer. If the engine overspeeds the maximum N1 pointer moves with the N1 pointer and remains at the highest reading until reset by pressing a panel mounted reset switch, Ref 77-12-00.
 C.  The command N1 display operates in either an automatic or a manual mode. When the command set knob is in the depressed or normal position, the command display is in the automatic mode operating with the command (target) N1 signal from the PMS. Pulling the knob out disables the automatic mode and permits the command display to be driven by rotating the command set knob.
 D.  In the automatic mode a warning flag covers the command counter, if the PMS computer unit N1 valid signal fails or if the indicator fails.
 E.  In the manual mode, an 'M' covers the left digit of the command counter.
 16. Horizontal Situation Indicator (Fig. 11)
______________________________
 A.  Two horizontal situation indicators (HSI) are installed in the airplane, one on each pilots instrument panel.
 B.  The HSI display includes a glide slope pointer. When INS lateral navigation is displayed on the HSI, and the PMS mode of operation is selected, the HSI glide slope pointer indicates airplane vertical path deviation from the PMS computed descent path; if the PMS descent is oriented to a bottom of descent (BOD) waypoint (geographically oriented descent).
 C.  When the PMS descent is without regard to waypoints (non-geographically oriented descent) the PMS causes the pointer to be biased up out of view. The pointer is also biased up out of view for an invalid condition.
 17. Attitude Director Indicator (Fig. 1)
___________________________
 A.  Two attitude director indicators (ADI) are installed in the airplane, one on each pilot's instrument panel.
 B.  The ADI display includes an auto throttle fast/slow pointer. In the PMS mode of operation this pointer is biased out of view.
 18. Performance Management System Engine Interface (Fig. 12)
______________________________________________
 A.  Signals that monitor nacelle anti-ice, and engine bleed air are provided to the engine interface unit' fuel flow rate signals and engine RPM signals are also provided to the engine interface unit. These signals are included in PMS computations for PMS control of airplane pitch (vertical steering) and thrust.
 19. Performance Management System Airframe Interface (Fig. 13).
________________________________________________
 A.  Signals that monitor airplane air conditioning and leading edge flaps are provided to the engine interface unit; outboard flap and total air temperature signals are provided to the computer unit. These signals are included in PMS computations for PMS control of airplane pitch (vertical steering) and thrust.
 20. Performance Management System Air Data Interface (Fig. 14)
________________________________________________
 A.  Altitude, airspeed and mach signals (from the central air data computer) are connected to the computer unit. Also the A/P-F/D mode select panel provides the selected clearance altitude to the computer unit. Barometric altitude correction is obtained from a barometric altimeter.
