 Make representative range and AM broadcast station frequency checks with both ADF systems operating. Check for erratic operation, crosstalk, unusual noise, and other irregularities not noticed in single system operation. Check that both systems function normally in ANT, ADF, and LOOP modes when both systems are tuned to different transmitting station frequencies.

 With ADF mode selected on both control panels, and each ADF system tuned to a broadcast station at widely separated locations, note relative bearings on RMI pointer needles. Use LOOP controls to drive pointer needles to positions 170 degrees from noted bearings. Set LOOP controls to midpoint and check that applicable pointer returns to original noted bearing in 6 seconds or less.

 AUTOMATIC DIRECTION FINDER (ADF) SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

 1. Operational Test
________________
 A. General
 (1)  The following operational tests establish that the ADF system is functioning in its operational modes. The operational tests require the existence of operational standard broadcast and low frequency transmitting stations in the area. Bearing checks made on the ground, in hangers, and in proximity to other airplanes, metal buildings and equipment, etc., may be unreliable. Consult trouble shooting section for assistance in fault isolation when faults are encountered during testing.
 B. Referenced Procedures
 (1) 24-22-00, Manual Control - Maintenance Practices (Apply Power)
 C. Test ADF System Operation
 (1)  
Apply electrical power (Ref 24-22-00).

 (2)  
Assure that the ADF and interphone circuit breakers located on electronic circuit breaker panel P7 are closed:

Rotate mode switch on ADF control panel through ADF and ANT positions. Verify that panel and dial lights are illuminated for both modes.

 (4)  
Select ADF-1 on flight interphone system audio selector panel. When ADF/VOR switches are provided on RMIs/RDDMIs (as applicable), select ADF. Test captain's system (ADF1) first.


 NOTE: Narrow ADF pointer operates with ADF1 system (Captain's);
____ wide ADF pointer operates with ADF2 system (First Officer's).
 (5)  
On AT airplanes, select left position of TFR switch on control panel and use left frequency select knobs and frequency readout indicator during the following tests.

 (6)  
Set mode switch to ANT. Set TONE (or BFO) switch to off position.

 (7)  
Check that a local AM broadcast station in the 190-1750 kHz frequency range can be received loud and clear. Vary ADF system GAIN control (and gain control (if provided) on audio selector panel) to check that control of audio from station is smooth and audio can be adjusted to more than adequate level. Check that applicable pointer on RMI's is stowed horizontally.
