 B.  Prepare to Check the Hydraulic Fluid Level in the Shock Strut

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THE GROUND LOCK PINS ARE INSTALLED ON ALL THE LANDING
_______ GEAR. WITHOUT THE GROUND LOCK PINS, THE LANDING COULD RETRACT AND CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  If the groundlock pins are not installed on all the landing gear, do this task: Install the ground lock assemblies (AMM 32-00-01/201).

 WARNING: CLEAR THE AREA BELOW THE WING BEFORE YOU DEFLATE THE SHOCK
_______ STRUT. IF YOU DEFLATE ONE SHOCK STRUT, THE WING TIP CAN MOVE DOWN AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (2)  Do the procedure that follows to check the hydraulic fluid level in the shock strut.

 CAUTION: DO NOT ADD SMALL QUANTITIES OF HYDRAULIC FLUID WITHOUT LUBRIZOL_______
 ú  MANY TIMES. IF THERE IS NOT A SUFFICIENT QUANTITY OF LUBRIZOL
 ú  IN THE FLUID, DAMAGE TO THE SHOCK STRUT CAN OCCUR.
 ú
 ú  (1) You must add a lubricant to the shock strut during servicing. As an
 ú  alternative, you can use a fluid which has an added lubricant. For
 ú  usual servicing when small quantities of fluid are necessary, you
 ú  can use fluid without lubricant to fill the shock strut.

 (2) Measure the pressure and the extension of the strut strut. The
 airplane must be at the usual landing weight.
 (a) Compare the quantities you measured with the quantities in the
 servicing chart (Fig. 302).
 (b) Inflate or deflate the shock strut, if it is necessary, to put
 the measured quantity in the range shown.

 (3) Measure the pressure and the extension of the shock strut. The
 airplane must be at the usual take-off weight.
 NOTE: For accurate airplane weight, the weight should differ from____
 that in the previous step by a minimum of 30,000 pounds.
 Make sure that the ambient temperatures at the time of
 measurements is in or less than 20°F.

 (4) Compare the quantities you measured before with the quantities shown
 in the servicing chart.
 (a) If the measured quantity is in the range shown, the fluid level
 is correct.
 (b) If the measured quantity is to left of the range shown, fluid
 level is low. Add fluid to the shock strut (refer to
 paragraph 3).
 (c) If it is necessary to fill the strut with six ounces or more,
 find the source of the leakage and repair it.
 (d) If the measured quantity is to the right side of the range
 shown in the servicing chart, fluid level is high.
 NOTE: High fluid level is caused by incorrect servicing____
 procedure.
