Prepare the engines for operation (AMM 71-00-00/201).

Use the engine oil temperature indicators on the P2-2 panel to monitor the engine oil temperature when the engines are not running.
(a) If the engine oil temperature shown on the P2-2 panel
approaches -40°F (-40°C), do these steps:
1) Remove the inlet and exhaust covers.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE ENGINE CORE TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE -40°F
_______ (-40°C) BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE. IF THE ENGINE CORE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW -40°F (-40°C), DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE BEARINGS CAN OCCUR.
2) Heat the engine core to a minimum of -40°F (-40°C) with a heater, MARK I COLDBUSTER, or suitable substitute: a) If you use a multiple hose ground cart heater, MARK I
COLDBUSTER, direct one heater hose in the inlet to heat the engine core, and one heater hose on the engine gearbox.
b) If you use a multiple hose ground cart (YMP-350 heater), direct one heater hose in the inlet to heat the engine core, and one heater hose on the engine gearbox.
c) If you use a single hose ground cart (Herman Nelson heater), direct the heater hose on the engine gearbox.
3) Make sure the engine oil temperature is above -40°F (-40°C) to prevent damage to the engine bearings when you start the engines. a) See the engine operating limits (AMM 71-00-00/201).

(21) AIRPLANES WITH FORWARD AIRSTAIR; Do these steps when the airstair is put in the stowed position:
CAUTION: REMOVE ALL ICE AND SNOW FROM THE AIRSTAIRS BEFORE YOU STOW
_______ THE AIRSTAIR IN THE FUSELAGE. ICE AND SHOW WILL MELT INSIDE THE FUSELAGE AND CAN DRAIN ONTO THE ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT.
(a) Remove all ice and snow from the airstair before it is moved to the stowed position.

(b) After the airstair is in the stowed postion, do these steps: 1) Get access to the airstair through the Electronic Equipment Access Door, 1201L. 2) Check for water on the drip shields and around the electronic equipment. 3) Remove all water on the drip shields and around electronic equipment.
4) Go out of the Electronic Equipment Bay and close the Electronic Equipment Access Door, 1201L.

(22) Make sure the fuel temperature is at least 6°F (3°C) above the fuel freeze point, based on the ASTM method for determining freeze point.
(a) The fuel temperature must remain above -40°F (-43°C).
