 (2)  Lift the airplane nose on jacks until the shock strut is fully extended (AMM 07-11-21/201).
 NOTE:____This step is optional. Do this if it is necessary that the airplane be lifted on jacks during servicing.

 WARNING: CLEAR THE AREA BELOW THE NOSE BEFORE YOU DEFLATE THE SHOCK
_______ STRUT. WHEN YOU DEFLATE THE SHOCK STRUT, THE NOSE TIP CAN MOVE DOWN AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (3)  Deflate the shock strut.
 (a)  Remove the valve cap from the air valve at the top of the shock strut.
 WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU LOOSEN THE NUT FOR THE AIR VALVE A MAXIMUM
_______ OF TWO TURNS. AIR PRESSURE CAN BLOW THE VALVE OFF AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (b) Remove the lockwire and loosen the nut for the air valve.
 NOTE: Fluid in the shock strut will start to foam immediately
____ as you reduce the pressure to ambient. Deflate the shock strut slowly to prevent leakage of fluid through the air valve.

 (4)  AIRPLANES THAT ARE NOT LIFTED ON JACKS; Do these steps if you need to drain the hydraulic fluid from the shock strut.
 (a)  
Remove the seal cap for the check valve at the bottom of the shock strut.

 (b)  
Put a fluid resistant container (5 gal) in a position to catch the shock strut fluid when the oil charging valve is opened.

 (c)  
Drain the shock strut.
 1) Install drain valve A32066-1

 

 NOTE:____For quicker draining do this: Cut a length of plastic tubing long enough to reach the bucket. Insert a small allen wrench in the end of the tube such that the long end of the wrench is flush with the end of the tube and the short end penetrates the wall of the tube. Install the tube on the oil check valve such that the allen wrench goes into the check valve and holds it open to drain the fluid.

 (d) Remove the drain equipment.

 CAUTION: DO NOT ADD SMALL QUANTITIES OF HYDRAULIC FLUID WITHOUT LUBRIZOL_______
 ú  MANY TIMES. IF THERE IS NOT A SUFFICIENT QUANTITY OF LUBRIZOL
 ú  IN THE FLUID, DAMAGE TO THE SHOCK STRUT CAN OCCUR.
 ú
 ú  (1) You must add a lubricant to the shock strut during servicing. As an
 ú  alternative, you can use a fluid which has an added lubricant. For
 ú  usual servicing when small quantities of fluid are necessary, you
 ú  can use fluid without lubricant to fill the shock strut.

 (2) Remove the seal cap for the check valve at the bottom of the shock
 strut if it has not been removed.
 (a) Connect the output hose of the service cart to the check valve.

 (3) Connect a hose to the air valve on top of the shock strut.
