ALTERNATE REFUELING PROCEDURES - SERVICING

1. General_______
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1)
A task to refuel the airplane when the fuel quantity indicating system (FQIS) is inoperative.
(2)
A task to pressure refuel with an inoperative refuel value.
B. Obey all of the safety precautions supplied in the task: "Precautions and Limits for the Refuel Operation" (AMM 12-11-01/301).

2. Refuel Operation When the Fuel Quantity Indicating System Is Inoperative________________________________________________________________________
A. General
(1) You can refuel a tank with a fuel quantity indicating system that does not operate correctly (a bad indicator). You can do this task with the fuel measuring sticks in the No. 1 tank or the No. 2 tank. You must also use the applicable document to calculate the fuel quantity from the values on the fuel measuring sticks. You must move fuel from a different tank if you must refuel the center tank when its indicators do not operate. You can also move fuel to refuel one of the wing tanks as an alternative to the fuel measuring stick procedure (AMM 28-23-00/201).

E. AIRPLANES WITH THE OPEN TUBE TYPE OF FUEL MEASURING STICK (DRIPSTICKS); Use the Fuel Measuring Sticks to Refuel the No. 1 Tank or the No. 2 Tank When the Fuel Quantity Indicating System Does Not Operate

(1) In the tank with the bad indicators, set the fuel measuring sticks to the necessary quantity (Fig. 301).
(a)
Use the applicable document for fuel measuring sticks.
(b)
Make sure you know the attitude of the airplane.

(2) Set a container that can catch fuel below each of the extended fuel measuring sticks.
NOTE: This is not necessary if you use the tool for the fuel

measuring sticks.

(3) Put fuel into the tank until fuel starts to fall in drops from the fuel measuring sticks.
NOTE: During the refuel operation, fuel can fall from the fuel
____ measuring stick, No. 2, before the fuel quantity in the tank goes to the level shown on the stick.

Stop the refuel operation.

Permit the fuel level in the tanks to become stable for five minutes.

Examine the fuel measuring sticks again.

If fuel does not continue to fall from the fuel measuring sticks, continue to put fuel into the tanks.
