Slowly open the air valve nut two turns maximum.
NOTE: Fluid under pressure in the shock strut will start to foam
____ immediately after the pressure is reduced to ambient. Deflate the shock strut slowly to prevent the fluid to leak through the air valve.

(3) Put the axle jack under the shock strut.
(a) Slowly lift the inner cylinder until the shock strut is fully compressed.

(4) Remove the foamed fluid and fill with fluid by one of the following methods:
(a) Flushing Method 1) Remove the seal cap of the check valve. 2) Connect the service cart to the check valve of the drain
tube. 3) Connect an overflow hose to the air valve on top of the shock strut.
NOTE: The air valve must be fully opened.

a) Put the other end of the hose to drain into the container.
4) Fill the shock strut with the fluid from the service cart until approximately 3 gallons of fluid flows into the container.

5) Add an extreme pressure additive on the shock strut fluid on airplanes that do not use a fully formulated (shock strut) fluid. a) Remove the air valve from the top of the strut and
remove approximately 1 pint of fluid.
CAUTION:_______ YOU MUST MIX SHOCK STRUT FLUIDS THAT ARE NOT
PRE-MIXED BEFORE YOU FILL THE STRUT. IF YOU POUR
UNDILUTED LUBRIZOL DIRECTLY INTO A STRUT IT CAN
SETTLE TO THE BOTTOM AND NOT MIX CORRECTLY.
UNDILUTED LUBRIZOL CAN ALSO CAUSE THE STRUT SEALS
TO SWELL AND SOFTEN.
CAUTION: YOU MUST MIX 1 PART LUBRIZOL 1395 WITH 10 PARTS
_______ MIL-H-6083 OR MIL-H-5606 TO DILUTE THE LUBRIZOL BEFORE YOU ADD IT TO THE STRUT. IF YOU DO NOT DILUTE LUBRIZOL BEFORE YOU ADD IT TO THE STRUT IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE STRUT AND SEALS.
b) Put in 11 ounces of diluted lubrizol and add clean fluid.
c) Replace the air valve.Draining Method 1) Remove the lockwire from the check valve. 2) Remove the check valve and drain the shock strut fully. 3) Remove the seal cap from the check valve. 4) Apply shock strut fluid to the threads of the check valve.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE ARROW ON THE CHECK VALVE POINTS TO THE
_______ SHOCK STRUT WHEN YOU INSTALL IT. INCORRECT INSTALLATION OF THE CHECK VALVE CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS IF THE SEAL CAP IS REMOVED WITH THE SHOCK STRUT PRESSURIZED.
5) Install the check valve at the bottom of the drain tube. 6) Turn the check valve until it contacts the bottom of the
drain tube. 7) Tighten the check valve 8 to 10 pound-feet torque. 8) Install the lockwire. 9) Connect the service cart to the check valve. 10) Add an extreme pressure additive on the shock strut fluid
on airplanes that do not use a fully formulated (shock
strut) fluid.
a) Remove the air valve from the top of the shock strut.
