 A. General
 (1)  
Leakage of the seal on the accessory gearbox will let oil flow from the accessory gearbox to the spline cavity. If the oil level in the spline cavity is usually too high, the accessory gearbox seal can be defective.

 (2)  
Leakage of the seal in the VSCF will let oil flow from the VSCF to the spline cavity. The input shaft seal can be defective if these two indications occur after you fill the VSCF with oil:

 (a)  
The oil level in the VSCF decreases.

 (b)  
The oil level in the spline cavity increases.

 (1)  
Service Cart - Malabar 53361-2, Malabar Hydraulics Co., 220 West Los Angeles Avenue, Simi Valley, CA 93065

Coupling - OMP2506-3, Ozone Metal Products, 101-32 101st Street, Ozone Park, Long Island, NY 11416

Spline Cavity Adapter - MS27404-3D, Aeroquip Corporation, Aerospace Division, 300 S. East Avenue, Jackson, MI 49203-1972.


 C. Standard Tools and Equipment
 (1)  Bucket - to hold up to 2 gallons of used oil
 D. Consumable Materials
 (1)  D00068 Oil - MIL-L-23699, MIL-L-7808, or any oil that agrees with the specifications of CFM56-3 SB79-001.
 NOTE: Refer to the marker on the VSCF to find the oil that is in
____
 the spline cavity.

 G. Add Oil to the Spline Cavity.

 (1)  
Set the bucket below the accessory gearbox to catch the oil (if you did not do this before).

Remove the cap from the drain fitting for the spline cavity on the accessory gearbox (if you did not do this before).


 NOTE: Use a second wrench to maintain the drain fitting during the

 removal of the cap.

 (3)  Remove the cap from the pressure-fill valve for the spline cavity on
 the VSCF.

 (4)  Connect the coupling to the pressure-fill valve for the spline
 cavity.

 (5)  Set the pressure from the service cart to 25-40 psig.

 (6)  Fill the spline cavity until the oil starts to drain from the drain
 fitting on the accessory gearbox.
 (a) Let the oil drain until it stops.

 (7)  Disconnect the coupling from the pressure-fill valve for the spline
 cavity.

 (8)  Install the cap on the pressure-fill valve for the spline cavity.

 (9)  Install the cap to the drain fitting for the spline cavity on the
 accessory gearbox.
 NOTE: Use a second wrench to maintain the drain fitting during the____
 installation of the cap.
 (a) Tighten the cap to a torque of 270-301 pound-inches.
 (b) Install a lockwire.

 (10) Remove the bucket.
 (a) Discard the oil from the bucket.
 S 163-080-003 CAUTION: IMMEDIATELY REMOVE ALL OF THE OIL THAT FALLS ON THE ENGINE
_______ PARTS. OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PAINT AND SOME RUBBER PARTS.
 (11)
 Clean the engine parts that have oil on them. S 413-081-003

 (12)
 Close the left fan cowl on the applicable engine (Ref 71-11-02/201).
