Upward pressure on the uplatch hook releases the door from its fully open position (Detail B, Fig. 1). Door weight rotates the door to a nearly closed position. The outer operating handle is lifted from its recess and rotated approximately 46 degrees counterclockwise. This retracts the latch rollers and allows the door to be pulled closed, then latched by a clockwise rotation of the handle. This final movement engages both latch rollers in their fittings and actuates the bulk cargo door warning switch (Ref 52-71-00). This removes the DOOR BULK CARGO message from the EICAS display. With the door closed and latched, the handle is released to spring back into its recess.
B.
Control
(1)
Open bulk cargo door.
(a)
Pull outer operating handle from recess in skin and rotate it 46 degrees counterclockwise.
(b)
Push door inward slightly and release operating handle allowing it to return to flush position.
(c)
Push door inward and up until latched to uplatch hook at cargo ceiling.
(d)
Open door from inside by rotating inner operating handle 46 degrees clockwise and pulling inward.
(2)
Close bulk cargo door.
(a)
Push uplatch hook upward to release door and allow door to descend to free hanging position.
(b)
Close door using exterior handle.
1) Pull exterior handle from recess in door and rotate handle counterclockwise to retract latch rollers. (Requires approximately 46-degree rotation.)
NOTE: With the external handle stowed, little effort
____ should be required to unstow the handle. Inability to unstow the handle is an indication that the external handle is not working in phase with the inner handle and that the door is not latched.
2) Pull door closed and while maintaining outward pull, rotate handle clockwise to mechanical stop to positively extend latch rollers. (Requires approximately 46-degree rotation).
3) Stow exterior handle and push in on door to verify door is latched. Make sure that the DOOR BULK CARGO message does not show on the EICAS display.
(c) Close door using interior handle. 1) Rotate handle clockwise to retract latch rollers.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL
2) Push door closed and while maintaining outward pressure on door, rotate handle counterclockwise to mechanical stop to positively extend latch rollers.
NOTE: Due to the latch mechanism design which preloads
____ the latches to the latched position, force should not be required to latch the door or stow the external handle. The handle should be rotated (or permitted to rotate) to the fully latched position prior to releasing the handle for stowing.
CAUTION: FAILURE TO VERIFY POSITIVE DOOR LATCHING CAN CAUSE
_______ DOOR TO BECOME UNLATCHED AND RESULT IN INCAPABILITY TO PRESSURIZE AIRPLANE.
3) Without rotating handle, pull in on door to verify it is latched. Make sure that the DOOR BULK CARGO message does not show on the EICAS display.
