Procedure
(1)
Prepare to remove the balance mechanism.

WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO HOLD THE BALANCE MECHANISM CABLE WITH BLOCKS
_______ AND CLAMPS. BLOCKS AND CLAMPS CAN LET THE CABLE MOVE. IF THE CABLE MOVES QUICKLY, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
(a)
While the door is closed, install the safety pin or the cable restraining tool on the spring tube.
(2)
Remove the balance mechanism.

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ARE NEAR THE DOOR AND THE BALANCE
_______ MECHANISM IS DISCONNECTED. IF YOU HIT THE DOOR, THE UPLATCH HOOK CAN RELEASE. IF THE UPLATCH HOOK RELEASES, THE DOOR WILL CLOSE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
(a)
Lift the door to release the tension on the cable.
(b)
Remove the cable from the attach fitting on the door (Detail C).
(c)
If it is possible, close the door.
NOTE: Do this if you must keep the door open:
____ -engage the uplatch hook
-attach a red streamer to the uplatch handle.
(d)
Remove the cable that goes between the spring tube and the cable drum from the cable drum (Detail A).
(e)
Remove the cable drum.
1) Remove the bolt through the cable drum that engages the nutplate on the floor beam.
WARNING: WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SPRING TUBE DO NOT REMOVE THE SAFETY
_______ PIN OR THE CABLE RESTRAINING TOOL. IF YOU REMOVE THE SAFETY PIN OR THE CABLE RESTRAINING TOOL, THE CABLE CAN RETRACT QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
(f) Remove the spring tube (Detail B). 1) Remove the bolt and Hi-Loks at the forward end of the
spring tube. 2) Loosen the clamp around the middle of the spring tube. 3) Pull the spring tube away from the door.
