 C.  The six tension latches provide a means of unlatching the APU access door permitting the doors to be opened for quick, easy access to the APU (Detail B). The latches also provide a positive door lock. An adjustable latch fitting and stop, attached to the lower edge of the left door, mates with each latch.
 D.  The latches are of fail-safe design and are operated by the blade of a standard 10-inch screwdriver inserted into the trigger slot. A force between 10 and 30 pounds applied outboard releases the latch hook. Safety features include trigger action, actuator safety, and overcenter toggle action of latch handle. The trigger mechanism is so designed that failure of the spring will not cause the latch to open.

 4.  Forward Electronic Bay Access Door (Fig. 4)
__________________________________
 A.  The forward electronic bay external access door is a plug-type, inward-opening, sliding door located in the lower fuselage aft of the nose wheel well to the left of the fuselage centerline. This door is operable from inside or outside the fuselage and is included in the door warning system A pair of tracks inside the fuselage structure allows the door to be pushed inward (up) and to the right of the door opening when entry is desired. Entry is then gained by using the stowed ladder inside the door opening.
 B.  The door is constructed of clad aluminum material. It has four roller assemblies on which the door travels when it is opened. A continuous seal around the periphery of the door prevents loss of cabin air when the airplane is in flight. Pressurization loads on the door are transmitted to the fuselage by the four latch pins. Door stop fittings and their corresponding fuselage structure keeper fittings are designed to bear against each other and to safely transmit pressurization loads should the door be left unlatched or the latch pins fail.
 C.  The door latching mechanism consists of four latch pins. These project through the four door stop fittings and engage corresponding keeper fittings in the fuselage structure surrounding the door. The latch pins are actuated by a common rack and pinion mechanism. The inner edge of each pin is in the form of a rack; all four racks engage a pinion on the central operating shaft. Operating handles at each end of the shaft enable the door to be operated from inside or outside the airplane.
 5.  Center Electronic Bay Access Door (Fig. 5)
_________________________________
 A.  The center electronic bay external access door is an inward-opening, plug type door located in the lower surface of section 42, slightly forward of the wing-to-body fairing. It is a hinged door with a single sliding-pin latch. The door is included in the door warning system.
