WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO HOLD THE BALANCE MECHANISM CABLE WITH BLOCKS AND
_______ CLAMPS. BLOCKS AND CABLES CAN LET THE CABLE MOVE. IF THE CABLE MOVES QUICKLY, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
(1)
See that the springs in the spring tube are compressed.
(a)
The springs are compressed if one of these items is true: 1) A safety pin through the tube compresses the springs 2) The cable restraining tool compresses the springs 3) A wood block inside the spring tube compresses the springs.

(2) Do these steps if the springs are not compressed (Fig 402).
NOTE: You must compress the springs to let the cable attach

to the cable drum.
(a)
Remove the spring tube cover on the end of the spring tube , if it is installed.
(b)
Use the spring cartridge assembly tool to compress the springs.
NOTE: Make sure you compress the springs sufficiently to let
____ you attach the cable to the cable drum.
(c)
Use one of these alternatives to hold the springs: 1) Install a safety pin through the spring tube 2) Install the cable restraining tool.
(d)
Remove the spring cartridge assembly tool.
(e)
Install the cover on the end of the spring tube.

WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE SAFETY PIN OR THE CABLE RESTRAINING
_______ TOOL WHILE YOU INSTALL THE BALANCE MECHANISM . IF YOU REMOVE THEM, THE CABLE CAN RETRACT QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
(3)
Install the balance mechanism.
(a)
Put the clamp around the spring tube and over the support bracket (Fig 401).
(b)
Install the bolt and Hi-Loks at the forward end of the tube.
(c)
Tighten the clamp.
(d)
Install the cable drum (Detail A). 1) Put the bolt and washer through the drum. 2) Engage the bolt with the nut plate on the floor beam. 3) Torque the bolt from 30 to 40 pound-inches.

(4)
Install the cables.
(a)
Connect the door cable to the cable drum. 1) Put the end fitting of the cable in the slot on the drum.
CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE THE HEAD OF THE BOLT POINTS DOWN. THE BOLT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CABLE IF YOU INSTALL IT INCORRECTLY.
2) Install the cable bolt with the head down.
(b) Connect the cable that goes to the spring tube. 1) Put the end fitting of the cable in the slot on the drum.
