WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LEADING EDGE FLAP SAFETY LOCKS ARE INSTALLED
_______ BEFORE YOU DO WORK ADJACENT TO THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS. OPERATION OF THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS CAN CAUSE INJURY AND DAMAGE.
MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.
(1)
Extend and lock the leading edge flaps (AMM 27-81-00/201).
S 864-116
(2)
Release the pressure in the pneumatic system (AMM 36-00-00/201).
S 014-118
(3)
Open the access doors and panels for the wing leading edge pneumatic ducts where necessary (AMM 06-09-08/201).
S 424-119
(4)
Loosely assemble the duct supports to allow duct movement during the course of the duct installation process.
(5)
Loosely position all the duct assemblies in the support clamps.
S 424-163
(6)
Position the flanges such that the flange faces are parallel.
(a)
Make sure that there is no axial misalignment between duct center lines.

(b) For duct ferrules, make sure that the gap does not exceed the
"A" dimension requirement shown in Fig. 402.
(c) Use only hand pressure to correct duct misalignment.
NOTE:____ Do not use drift punches or other tools to align the
ducts.
S 434-121
(7)
Begin the assembly of duct joints by hand pressure to tighten the duct clamp at a rigid support.
S 434-122
(8)
Repeat the previous step for the next duct joint in line until all ducts are assembled.
S 434-123
(9)
Adjust the adjustable support rods at these Inboard Leading Edge Stations: ILES 704 and ILES 1101 as necessary to meet the installation requirements and eliminate the preload condition.
S 214-124
(10)
Make sure that the flexible joints are not preloaded.
(a)
If you can rotate the retainer a full turn by hand pressure only, the retainer installation is acceptable.
(b)
If you are not able to rotate the retainer by hand pressure for a full turn, remove the retainer from the duct joint assembly. 1) Make sure that the gap between the ducts does not exceed
the "A" dimension requirement shown on Fig. 402. 2) Make sure that the sleeve can slide over the end of the ferrule.
3) If either one of these conditions cannot be met, align the ducts and the adjacent duct supports again as necessary to eliminate the preload condition.
4) Install the retainer and do a hand spin check again.
S 434-125
(11)
Make any final adjustment to each duct joint as necessary at the support brackets.
S 434-126
(12)
Tighten the series of support clamps in sequence.
(a)
Begin at a rigid support and end at an adjustable support.
