(3) Carefully clean the surfaces of the seal sleeve and seal retaining grooves with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth, or compressed air.
NOTE:____Do not use solvents. Do not scrape the internal surfaces of the sleeve against the external surface of the duct or ferrule when you clean the sleeve. The internal sleeve surface is permanently lubricated.
S 644-106
(4)
Lubricate the seal retainer grooves only with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth.
S 424-107
(5)
Install the seal.
S 424-160
(6)
Install sleeve over one of the ferrule-duct assemblies.
S 434-078
(7)
Position the duct section in place and support it loosely with support hardwares (rods, clamps, etc.) which have not been tightened.
(a)
Push both ferrule assemblies together so that the distance between the ferrule ends does not exceed dimension "A" shown in Fig. 402.
(b)
Slide and center the sleeve over the ferrule assemblies.
NOTE: Excessive preload should not be required to align
____ duct ferrules into place since the ducts are loosely fitted at this point.
1) Use your finger tips to set the seal under the sleeve. 2) If the seal comes out of the sleeve, push it down into the groove and under the sleeve.
S 434-079
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DUCT JOINT CLAMP DOES NOT PRELOAD DUCT
_______ FLANGES WHICH COULD CAUSE FATIGUE CRACKS OF FLANGE WELDS.
(8)
Install the retainer assembly over the assembled ferrule-sleeve sub-assembly.
(a)

C. Make sure that the coupling and ducts are not preloaded.
S 214-112
(1)
Do a "Hand Spin Check": rotate the retainer assembly about the axis of the duct by hand pressure.
(a)
If the retainer assembly cannot be rotated a full turn by hand pressure only, disassemble the joint and assemble per the above "Install the Duct Section" instructions.
(b)
If the retainer assembly can rotated a full turn by hand pressure only, the retainer installation is acceptable.
